The 2013 Bowerman Awards featured world class athletes from across the NCAA. Nominees included Arizona's Lawi Lalang, Julian Wruck of UCLA, Brigetta Barrett of Arizona, and Kori Carter of Stanford. In the end, Brianna Rollins of Clemson and Derek Drouin of Indiana took home the most coveted award of collegiate track and field.
Brianna Rollins, Clemson
Brianna Rollins of Clemson won the 2013 Bowerman Award after winning the 60m hurdles indoor and 100m hurdles outdoor at both NCAA Championships. Not only did she take home two individual titles, she set collegiate records in both. Her time of 7.78 broke the indoor record from 2006. She followed up with a 7.82 and 7.79 at the NCAA Indoor Championships, breaking her record twice and giving her the three fastest times in collegiate history. Her 100m hurdles time of 12.39 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships final broke her own collegiate record that she set in the semifinals. In total, she ended her collegiate career with an unbeaten streak of 17 races between the two events.
Derek Drouin, Indiana
Derek Drouin of Indiana took home the Bowerman Award of 2013 after sweeping both indoor and outdoor NCAA high jump titles. He won at heights of 7-8 or greater throughout the season, taking cracks at the collegiate record several times. His winning jump of 2.35m at the NCAA Indoor Championship put him at No.2 all-time, while he went unbeaten outdoors, clearing 2.34m at NCAA outdoors. The Olympic bronze medalist from Canada also competed in the Big 10 heptathlon, finishing third and setting a new world's best HJ mark in a heptathlon (2.30m).
