O’Connor’s victory in the 3k steeple at NCAA Outdoors was a huge surprise. The Michigan State junior ran an eight second PR of 9:36.43 in the final to stomp an incredibly talented field that included 2012 Olympian Shalaya Kipp. O’Connor finished more than seven seconds ahead of 2nd place finisher Marissa Howard.
O’Connor’s huge margin of victory propelled her to the #4 spot on our list. The NCAA champion’s last lap was clocked at 69.1, more than two seconds quicker than the next fastest competitor.
