Marielle Hall Beats Abbey D at NCAA’s
Entering the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships, perhaps no one was favored in their event more than Abbey D’Agostino in the 5k. D’Agostino had just completed her second consecutive sweep of the indoor 3k/5k in March, and was the defending champion in the outdoor 5k. The senior from Dartmouth hadn’t lost an NCAA championship race since the 2012 NCAA XC Championships.

No one expected Abby D to lose her final NCAA race, and even more unexpected was Marielle Hall of Texas beating her. Entering 2014, Hall had a 5k PR of 16:22 and zero NCAA titles. She ended her senior season with a 15:19 personal best and a victory over one of the best distance runners in NCAA history.
