Chanelle Price Wins Gold at World Indoors
Chanelle Price won the gold medal in the 800m at the 2014 World Indoor Championships, the first American woman to win a world title indoor or outdoor. Even more remarkable was that Price won gold while unsponsored and working two jobs to pay the bills.

Price had been a disappointment up until 2014 as she failed to live up to the hype after running 2:02 in high school. While she was a part of the 2009 NCAA champion/World record DMR squad at Tennessee, Price did not win an individual title in college. At the 2013 USA Outdoor Championships, Price failed to make the final in the 800m.

Those struggles make Price’s victory in Sopot that much more special. Pundits had labeled her as a bust, and she was forced to work her way back without many people believing she could do it. Undeterred, Price went out hard from the gun in the final, running much more confident than her past performances would suggest. Price led wire-to-wire, and earned herself a sponsorship deal with Nike shortly after.
