The ageless Bernard Lagat was at his usual record-breaking game once again today in France.  

 

The 40-year-old broke his fourth Masters World record in as many tries on Wednesday in Metz, once again in the 3,000m. Lagat’s time of 7:37.71 today broke his own record of 7:48.33, set on February 7th in Boston. The four-time Olympian took down Kenyans Paul Koech (7:39.68), Nixon Chepseba (7:42.65), and Bethwell Birgen (7:43.77). His time is technically the current world-lead, although Mo Farah split 7:33.1 en route to his 8:03.40 two-mile World record last Saturday in Birmingham. 

 

Lagat’s win in Metz concludes his 2015 indoor campaign, certainly a very successful one at that. Since his indoor debut in Boston on February 7th, Lagat has broken the Masters World record in the mile on February 14th (3:54.91), and the two-mile last Saturday (8:17.05). His 1,500m split in the Wanamaker mile (3:40.20) was also a world record, yet it is not official because it was run en route.
