6 EVENTS TO WATCH:

Men's 60m

Florida State freshman and reigning IAAF World Junior Champions Kendal Williams and Trentavis Friday highlight this fast field. Both are ranked No. 4 and No. 8 in the NCAA and have the ability to sweep this event with their teammate No. 19 Cejhae Greene. But watch out for No. 8 Tevin Hester of Clemson to try and crash this Seminole party.

Women’s 800m
The best 800m runner in the NCAA will go for her first ACC Championship this weekend. After transferring from LSU, Natoya Goule sat out during the 2014 season and is doing an excellent job of reminding people that she’s still around. She posted a 2:02.78 in the elite section of the 2015 Armory Track Invite January 30th and has been at the top ever since. The Virginia Tech duo of Hanna Green and Amanda Smith are sitting at No. 7 and No. 16 in the NCAA, though, and have home track advantage. But this is Goule, the 2013 indoor and outdoor national champ who beat Laura Roesler, 2014’s most untouchable 800m runner. She’ll grab the victory.

Men’s 3k
I believe it was Lincoln Shryack from Flotrack who said, “Thomas Curtin! Who are you Thomas Curtin!?” as Curtin kicked down Wisconsin alum Reed Connor for the victory at the Iowa State Classic with his No. 2 13:38.56 for 5k. Curtin has been on a roll since, anchoring Virginia Tech’s DMR to an NCAA top mark last weekend and now running for an ACC 3k title. He’s currently No. 9 in the NCAA and he’ll have plenty of competition. NC State’s No. 20 Graham Crawford, as well as ACC Cross Country champion Martin Hehir of Syracuse should put up a good fight.

Women’s 400m
Two of the NCAA’s best will face off for a conference title. No. 4 Shakima Wimbley of Miami and No. 9 Margaret Bamgbose of Notre Dame should put up a good fight for spectators. Wimbley is one of five ladies in the NCAA to dip under 52-seconds this season and was a member of the gold medal winning 4x400m team at World Juniors. Florida State’s Kala Funderburk is No. 15 right now and coming off FSU’s fast 4x400m at the Alex Wilson Invite. With the team title on the line, expect this Seminole to challenge.

Men's Weight Throw
No. 4 Jordan Young of Virginia transferred out east from spending one year at the University of Arizona. He had one of the top throws in the NCAA in 2014, but did not perform at the NCAA competition. He’s been grinding this season, though, and sitting at the top spot in the ACC. No. 11 AJ Hicks of North Carolina and No. 15 Tomas Kruzliak of Virginia Tech will try and break through the 22m barrier, but Young’s 22.61m mark may be too much.

Women's Triple Jump

The Clemson Tigers will try to sweep this event, as No. 15 Iana Amsterdam, No. 24 Anasterasia Terrell, and No. 29 Mimi Land are ranked as the top-3 in the ACC. If all goes well, 24 points could be headed Clemson’s way as they hope to clinch the team title.

Men’s Team Battle
With Virginia Tech’s distance standouts, namely Curtin, they skyrocketed to No. 8 in the NCAA. No. 19 Florida State is the only other ACC squad in the top-25, and we think they may overcome Virginia Tech in their home state. With their all star sprint crew possibly sweeping the sprint events (We didn’t even mention Michael Cherry in the 400m!), the ‘Noles could rain on Tech’s parade.

Women’s Team Battle
Clemson is the top ranked ACC team in the NCAA with their No. 15 position, but No. 22 Florida State and No. 24 Notre Dame aren’t far behind. Florida State has a huge advantage with Colleen Quigley, the nation’s top miler, entered in the mile, 3k, and DMR. She could easily give the Seminoles 30 points, but Clemson’s sprint depth, plus Goule’s easy win, may give the Tigers the lock.
