Athletics Kenya President to Step Aside, Greater Investigations to Follow

Athletics Kenya president Isaiah Kiplagat and vice president David Okeyo have agreed to step away from their positions to allow greater investigations by the government, according to Evelyn Watta, Sports News Arena.

IAAF president Seb Coe called in from Monaco, while IOC president Dr. Thomas Bach and National Olympics Committee of Kenya president Kipchoge Keino, IOC member Paul Tergat, as well as others, met yesterday and agreed that the two needed to step down for further investigations to follow.

The news comes days after athletes stormed the AK headquarters and demanded “for the corrupt to go home,” according to The Guardian.

The athletes were protesting by reason of the allegations that AK officials — especially Kiplagat, Okeyo and former treasurer Joseph Kinyua — have been pocketing large amounts of payment from Nike.

Kenyan athletes are calling for a change within Athletics Kenya in order to properly tackle the rampant doping allegations and corruption investigations.

2015 London and Berlin Marathon winner Eliud Kipchoge took to Twitter to express his frustration.
While 2015 World 400m Hurdle Champion Nicholas Bett has been very vocal on his Facebook page, sharing a link to a Kiplagat and Okeyo story while "feeling happy."
