The
Women's 800m is the first final in today's action. If you've been following
online coverage you might be aware of what took place in the 800m semi-finals,
but if your viewing has been restricted to NBC or USA it may have escaped your
notice. In the first semi-final heat, there was a fall approximately 250 meters
into the race. Four of the eight women in the heat went down. To advance to the
final meant placing in the top four, so it appeared that none of them would
move on, but after an appeal, USATF announced… more »

DESPITE BUMPY START, WEBB CONFIDENT PRIOR TO OLYMPIC TRIALS By David Monti (c) 2008 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved
When Alan Webb finished 16th at the U.S. 8-K Championships last March, then stepped off the course with about 800m to go at the Carlsbad 5000 three weeks later, alarm bells went off amongst America's track fans. A panic practically ensued when he withdrew from the mile at the Drake Relays a week after the Carlsbad race. Was Alan Webb in trouble in this all-important Olympic year?

There was a stretch of time (for a couple of years) where on occasion, while running around some local lakes, a runner would approach at an alarming speed. I could instantly deduce who she was even as a mere spot in the distance. Her form was so flawless that there was only one person it could be. The process of elimination was instant. This is saying something as the trails of greater Victoria are many and the runners of all levels are everywhere.
As the space between us would dwindle, a quick nod is all that would transpire as… more »
German Fernandez sets National 2-Mile Record
June 20, 2008
The event that was touted the most anticipated High School race ever,
lived up to its billing and a whole lot more Friday night at Nike
Outdoor Nationals in North Carolina. The last attempt of the Summer at the National 2-mile record took place, and in its wake only one prep athlete was left standing. After months of discussions and gutsy performances out on the track German Fernandez put all doubts to rest as he kicked his way to a record setting performance of 8.34.40, shattering the previous record of 8.36.3 held since 1979 by Jeff Nelson.

Victoria International Track Classic - Thursday June 19, 2008 - University of Victoria, Centennial Stadium - The annual Track Classic as part of the PacifiCanada Track Series attracted a few bonafide stars in the Canadian track and field scene.
Canadian record holder in the Shotput from Kamloops, BC, Dylan Armstrong entertained the crowd by narrowly missing the Canadian flag that was flitting lightly in the very gently breeze. It was set as a marker, indicating how far he needs to throw to take down the Canadian record. He didn't, but he threw well, almost taking down the meet record and… more »

Phidippides the Athenian foot-messenger left a legacy that grows greater each year and is propagated by the millions of people who now participate in marathon races all over the world.
In 490 BC, Phidippides was fighting for democracy, when he ran back-to-back ultra-marathons; two days each way, to ask the Spartans to help fight a war for democracy against the Persians and return with their answer.
His inaugural marathon, delivering the news of victory, after back-to-back ultras, killed Phidippides; he was a martyr of sorts. Thus sport has become one of the greatest political arenas.

Just because I did 6.04 today doesn't mean that the Trials will be easy. I'm trying to stay focused. My 5.90 jump was a little cleaner but I was on a bigger pole at 6.04. Sometimes you can do bigger tricks on bigger sticks.

These two meets have brought together some of the greatest fields ever assembled to try… more »

Of course John has nothing to lose by saying so when he talks to the Canadian press about his feelings on the subject.John Little, in not so many words, told the press that he was speaking on behalf of… more »
