Dan Chenoweth KWIK-E

Harvard junior Dan Chenoweth took 42nd at last year's NCAA Cross Country Championships. Chenoweth is looking for another solid summer of running leading up to this year's fall championship. Let's see how he does! Can you sum up your 2008-2009 season? (Laughs) I guess it was kind of a long season, obviously. They were a couple of different seasons. I felt like the fall was a really good step for me. Personally, for me and my team, things went really well for us I think. Also, I had a strong season my freshman year and I had that next step… more »

Alex Kosinski KWIK-E

Oregon Duck junior, Alex Kosinski, took eighth at last year's NCAA Cross Country Championships, as her team took second behind Washington. Not racing this summer, Kosinski and the Ducks are getting another shipment of the top recruits in the country, including Jordan Hasay, and look to take the national championships this fall. Can you sum up your outdoor season after you didn't make the finals in the 1,500 at the NCAA and USA Championships? I wasn't super excited about it, but I wasn't disappointed either because I was consistently running my PR for the year. I was waiting for a… more »

Healthy Intelligent Training - The Proven Principles of Arthur Lydiard

© - Copyright – 2009 – Christopher Kelsall The Arthur Lydiard Phenomenon - A method of any other way could only be of a lesser standard.Certainly no other endurance pioneer, no matter how successful, could possibly have experimented with or applied as steadfastly in their toil as Lydiard did. Not Percy Cerutty, not Emil Zatopek, nor even Bill Bowerman set research and application parameters as high as he did.Keith Livingstone recently gave the legend full-on credit by writing the book, Healthy Intelligent Training, The Proven Principles of Arthur Lydiard. Coach Paul Williams: Leaving Boys Behind, Pushing Men to Their Potential

According to Merriam Webster’s dictionary, “to lose” can be defined as: (1) “to miss from one's possession or from a customary or supposed place” or (2) “to suffer deprivation of.”  To the man, English tries to simplify this simple word into an even simpler meaning; the vernacular tries to make the word “loss” a black-and-white term which thus tarnishes the running world’s definition – to NOT take 1st place.  But what if there was a man who truly understood the meaning of a loss, and simply doesn’t care what YOU think the term means?  To Coach Paul Williams, “to… more »

Sean Houseworth KWIK-E

Air Force Academy Falcon Sean Houseworth took 15th place at the NCAA Championships in the 10,000-meter run before competing in the longest track event at the USA Championships. Houseworth recently graduated and is toying with the idea of moving up to the half-marathon/marathon distances before making a run at the 2012 Olympic Trials. Since the USA Championships, what have you been doing? Any running? I'm taking some time off. I'm back home where I grew up in Illinois. I'm just back home, hanging out with the family and golfing a lot. You pretty good? Decent. I play quite a bit… more »

Geoff Martinson

© - Copyright – 2009 – Christopher Kelsall I WAS DOWN ON THE TRACK watching the Victoria Track Classic, wondering (as writers of athletics often will) what's up with a particular athlete these days. I noticed Geoff Martinson holding court shortly after his 1500m win, he was with friends who were leaning over the white railing that separates the spectators from the stadium track; they were laughing, he was entertaining the troops shortly after his 1500m Invitational win. Geoff is one of the good guys of sport. He may soon qualify to run internationally for Canada, until then, he can… more »
