This weekend will be packed full of action with two major track events taking place, the Nike Prefontaine Classic in Eugene and the Bislett Games in Oslo. Though these two events are thousands of miles apart from each other they both have one thing in common and that is the potential for world records to be broken. Though the end is near for the most college track and field athletes pro athletes are just starting their bid for a top three spot on this year's Olympic team. For college athletes this weekend is for all the bragging rights as a majority of conference championships will be held. Track is not like football in that each team in every conference will be able to compete against each other at the same time for their championship. After this weekend teams/individuals will then set their sites on regional meets in hopes of qualifying for nationals. This has been a long… more »

This Olympic year has been chock full of too many amazing accomplishments to mention them all right now. However, credit needs to be given to this past weekend's Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational where Scott Bauhs got the Olympic "A" standard in the 10k, Sally Kipyego ran an amazing 31:25.45 10k collegiate record, and Shalane Flanagan proved she is on top by winning the Kim McDonald 10k in an American record time of 30:34.49. That just so happened to be the first time that Shalane has ever run the 10k and breaking the women's AR by 17 seconds, I do believe… more »

The time has finally come this weekend will host two of the biggest track meets in the country. Yes, there will be other meets and events going on, but by far the Penn and Drake Relays will headline this weekend. They are some of the biggest if not the biggest track meets held each year in our country. Every year athletes have to make the tough decision on, which one to go to, but if your a fan don't worry they both will still be stacked. The Drake Relays will start a little earlier on Wednesday, but both meets will… more »

The Week Ahead is bound to be a big one with the Flora London Marathon and a multitude of college track meets on tap. We are definitely in the swing of things with top performances happening all over the country by high school, college, and pro athletes. At the high school level Southlake Carroll’s boys went 10:02 in the DMR (Colby Lowe 4:06 1600 meter leg) and I was there to see 18-year-old Jeffery Demps’ 10.17 in the 100 meters. The collegiate athletes are not far behind how about Lisa Koll’s CR of 32:11.13 in the 10,000 meters and Richard… more »

I want to recap a few times Kim Smith’s 4:24 mile and Yelena Soboleva’s 1.56:49 800m and 3.58:05 1500m WR are just amazing! This year will be one for the record books. Look for more of these top performances in the near future.

This past week was filled with action in all of the levels of track and field. The Millrose Games were a hit with Adam Nelson and Bernard Lagat stealing the show in to completely different fashions. Lagat took his six consecutive Wanamaker title, while Adam Nelson entertained as always and threw a meet record of 72ft 5in. On the women’s side Kara Goucher out lasted Sara Hall in the women’s mile to prove she is the whole package. If this stuff doesn’t get you excited than I don’t know what would. From the look of things from these first couple… more »

I know that this is a sad way to start off but I know that everyone has heard about the violence in Kenya. I personally have some friends from Kenya and it is sad to see how much it grieves them. This is a horrible situation so please keep the people over here and there in your thoughts and prayers.

Hey Flotrackers! Here we go into the 2008 collegiate indoor season. It will be packed with historic performances and bitter disappointments. Already Virginia Tech’s Women’s 4x200-meter relay team has set a new collegiate record with a time of 1:36.43 and we are only a few weeks into the season! Speaking of getting out fast how about last year 60-meter national champion Travis Padgett from Clemson getting an automatic qualifying mark in the 60-meter dash in his first meet of the season with a 6.62? Well we have all heard about the American resurgence in distance running already one of these… more »
