The Week Ahead

I know that this is a sad way to start off but I know that everyone has heard about the violence in Kenya. I personally have some friends from Kenya and it is sad to see how much it grieves them. This is a horrible situation so please keep the people over here and there in your thoughts and prayers.

On a lighter side there are reports that Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee will be running the Boston Marathon. This is not just some publicity stunt this will actually be his fifth marathon! "I'm signed up for Boston and training," Huckabee told Runner's World in a recent e-mail. "Not easy doing that while running for President!"

The race to Beijing is under way and this weekend’s stop is the Boston Indoor Games! Last year the Boston Indoor games blew us away because when it was all over we had the women’s American record in the 3000m by Shalane Flanagan and the women’s World record in the 5k by Tirunesh Dibaba in a time of 14:27.42. On the men’s side “The Big Mazungo” Craig Mottram from Australia ran an impressive 7:39.24 in the 3000 meters and Alan Webb outran Kevin Sullivan in the men’s mile in a time of 3:55.18 to 3:57.33. With that said this year’s Games look to be just as spectacular with athletes like Shalonda Solomon, Nick Willis, Jenn Stuczynski, Tirunesh Dibaba, Craig Mottram, Galen Rupp, Tariku Bekele and Said Ahmed competing you won’t be disappointed. Some other things to look forward to are the throws between Adam Nelson, Reese Hoffa, and Christian Cantwell and the 800 meter race between Khadevis Robinson and Nick Symmonds!(Boston Indoor Games)

On the college side this weekend looks to be the weekend when everyone starts to bring out their big guns. Not every major program has unleashed their talent, but with meets like the Florida Tom Jones Classic, Indiana Gladstein Invitaional, Boston Terrier Inv., Michigan Jack Harvey, Wisconsin Elite Inv. and Nebraska Conference Challenge were bound to see some top talent. This just in Flotrack will be on site at the Boston University Terrier Invitational! Flotrack will be doing a special for that meet highlighting one of the best college meets in the country. I will be in Gainesville racing and covering the action at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic where teams like South Carolina, Georgia, Auburn and Florida State will be making an appearance. This is exciting because some of the top programs in the nation will be in the house. I will try to make sure to make a video from my experience at UF! Good Luck to everyone traveling and competing this weekend!

Always make sure to check out the News and Results on the Flotrack Website for any extra information!

To defend Haskins, I know for a fact that "The big Mazungo" is Craig's nickname spelt that way on purpose.

Wow I can't believe it's already been a year since the last Boston Indoor Games! That's going to be a good meet.
