The Week Ahead

Wow things are really starting to heat up! In both the pro and college scenes records are falling and times are dropping. Athletes like Meseret Defar, Kim Smith and Craig Mottram have set the bar high for this up coming weekend of track and field. This weekend will be highlighted by the 101st Millrose Games(A New Century Begins) the second stop of the VISA Championship Series.

After breaking the USA all-comers record in a time of 7:34.50 Craig Mottram is heading to New York City hoping to win his second title this season. However this time he is shooting for a mile title, but Bernard Lagat, Galen Rupp, and Nick Willis are looking to keep that from happening. Galen Rupp will try for the second time to break the 4-minute mark, but that might be hard to come by on the notoriously slow Millrose track. Already known as one of America’s great 10k runners Rupp is hoping that the mile will give him the speed he will need at the trials to pull away for one of the top three positions. This has all the right ingredients to be a great race! On the field side at 2008 Millrose Games, 2000 Olympic gold medalist Stacy Dragila will face Jenn Stuczynski in the pole vault and Reese Hoffa will look to take his reign back from Christian Cantwell as the top shot putter in the world.

The college action this weekend will feature the LSU Bayou Bengal Invitational, Kentucky Rod McCravy Invitational, Nebraska Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, Oklahoma J.D. Martin Invitational, Washington Invitational, and Texas Roadhouse Carolina Classic. I know many people are longing for the match up of Walter Dix against Trenton Holliday and believe me I am too. This past week I was honored to see Walter open up the season at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic and from what I saw believe me we want be disappointed. However, we still have one week before that happens so just hold your horses. Your own Flotrack will be at the Washington Invitational covering the action similar to the Boston University meet! If you like that type of coverage or want to see something else just let us know?!

Just real quick please leave me some feedback if you would like me to point out something else that I might have left out. I really want to highlight everyone’s interest so please let me know if I am missing something. Good luck to all the teams competing this weekend be safe and run fast!

Always make sure to check out the News and Results on the Flotrack Website for any extra information!

Millrose can not be seen as slow, seeing as the Women's Collegiate Indoor Mile Record of 4.28 was set on that track roughly 20 years ago and still stands today
