The Week Ahead

The week ahead will be action packed with six major events the NCAA Division I, II, & III Indoor Track & Field Championships, USA 8k Championships, National Scholastic Indoor Track & Field Championships and Nike Indoor Nationals. Basically if you' re a fan of running there will be something this weekend for you.

For those that are ready for the collegiate outdoor season to begin hold your horses, because this weekend will officially wrap-up the indoor season. On the Division I side it truly will be an exciting event to watch with both the men's and women's sides being a close race. Expect the men's side to be a close battle between Florida State and Tennessee and then on the women's side LSU and Arizona State. Check out the website trackshark.com for an extensive review of the Division I Indoor Championships. Also if you want to find out the Division II Indoor Championships fellow writer Cara Hawkins has a great article up detailing this weekends action in Division II. Yes, Division III needs the coverage too as they will be competing at Ohio Northern University on March 14-15. The Championships on both the men's and women's side look to be close with Wisconsin-La Crosse leading on both sides. Although, I personally have seen North Central's mens team compete and they will be tough.

It seems that every weekend there is a USA Championship going on and this week won't be any different. The USA 8k Championships will be held once again in Central Park on March 15 the athletes will run the race in hopes of getting a piece of the total prize-money purse of $70,000. I along with so many others I am sure can't wait for Alan Webb's return. However, he will have a test this weekend because once again the field is loaded with types like Dathan Ritzenhein, Torres's brothers, and Jason Hartmann. And who right now in the right mind would bet against Dathan Ritzenhein? The women's race will also be hotly contested as Shalane Flanagan will look to keep her dominating form up against Carmen Douma-Hussar, Carrie Tollefson, and Katie McGregor.(letsrun.com) Make sure to check out the videos up with interviews of Alan Webb, Torres's Brothers, and etc. leading up to the 8k Championships.

What a decision it has to be to decide on which National event to go to whether it is the National Scholastic Indoor Track & Field Championships or the Nike Indoor Nationals. Whatever the athletes decide both will be packed with talented athletes. DyeStat News Editor SteveU has done a great job of giving us 13 reasons on why to look into both the National Scholastic Indoor Track & Field Championships and Nike Indoor Nationals. So make sure to check that out at dyestat.com.

Feel free to give your predictions about this weekends action and who you think will rise above the other competition!!!

Good luck to all the teams/individuals competing this weekend be safe and run fast! Always make sure to check out the News and Results on the Flotrack Website for any extra information!

Mark, thanks for everything you do, I think most understood why the races of any of the ncaa divisions are not being covered on this site in video format, people were simply upset by its omission in the text.

my original post wasn't supposed to have this much controversy... Mark, no worries about the DIII thing, most people are more interested in DI anyway. I was just pointing out that it was not mentioned in the original article post. Some people can really take things out of context. As i have told you before, I love this site and everything it is doing for the sport, i am excited to see what the next 6 months will bring.

ESPN holds many rights to televising the NCAA Champs, including indoor track, gymnastics, baseball, softball, volleyball, lacrosse amd more.

Also, the NCAA is broadcasting the Division I and Division III meets on-line for free.

Not totally sure, so I will not try an explain. I do know that CBS has the first right to the event. If they do not see it worth their while they refuse it. Espn gets paid to show USATF events not sure about NCAA. I should know more about it and will try to find out more details.

D3ers,

Been traveling around and it has been hard getting internet for long.... Anyway there is no disrespect here for D3 but the NCAA has sold all its rights to CBS for all sports except football. The NAIA gave us full access so it makes it a lot easier for us to commit our time. If we go to NCAA D3, even though CBS will not show any of it anytime we can only show the races for a short period of time. I cannot justify going to D3 and killing myself if we can't keep the footage up. Hopefully this will change in the future and we are working towards this but right now we really can't.

Sorry bout that,

Mark Fo

Marcia Taddy will win the 800/mile double again this year at 3 nats, capable of running under 2.07 and prob around 4.45, but my guess is being a champs race it will not end up so fast.

All of you that are complaining are missing the point here. It is about coverage and appreciaton for all levels of the sport. It is to promote TRACK and competition.

I am sure that there are plenty of fans for all of the levels represented throughout the NAIA and NCAA so quite trying to bring each other down and back up your sport.

Okay, so yeah the top seed is 4.09, about the same as last year, and the winner last year ran 3.56 this year, its amazing what you can do with some better competition, and getting to train without having to worry about class. Oh and the person who currently sits with that 4.09 is a sophomore, and split 4.03 for the DMR by himself

Thats not a knock on your journalism Mr. Haskins... I appreciate what you are doing for the site and the sport. You are representing it in a positive light; not like some ignorant jerks
its just a shot at previous posters who are morons (the ones who think DIII is "rubbish")

Hey D3 Whaa whaa, I bring it up again. D3 is far deeper and has many top performances that will be better than the NAIA yet that championship gets video and coverage galore. D2 doesn't have 12 guys sub 4 either, get over yourself. I highly doubt you would have made the D3 championships anyways.

Look guys and girls I am honestly sorry. I have little experience in doing articles but I am trying. I love the sport and I love to talk about it. Flotrack is giving me the chance to write and I am trying too to the best of my ability. I know I am not perfect but please give me constructive criticism. I have seen how some people have been so rude to some of the writers for flotrack when it is uncalled for. Believe me we dont mean to leave things out, but I to have to run, work, and go to school so I might mess up once or twice. I say this just in hope of people giving us a chance. How can we learn unless we mess up? Thanks.

D3 Whaaa Whaa   March 12, 2008 at 8:35pm
Why does D3 not get covered or considered a big deal in the Track community? Hmm, could it be that none of the D3 champs this years times will place them in a D1 event? Or could it be that the D3 races will be stacked with guys breaking barriers such as the 4 minute mile?... oh wait the top seed there is at 4:09.. which is absolute rubish in the real world.. If D3 wants coverage have 12 guys go sub 4 this year like D1...clowns

For a site that had full blown coverage of the NAIA championships last weekend leaving out DIII championships seems a little strange.

And Will Leer one of the top milers indoors this year, and hmm Andrew Rock olympic gold medalist, I don't know the list goes on. I am not saying that D3 is better than D1 but if you are going to be telling people the big races of the weekend it seems fairly ignorant of you as a journalist to omit such a race.
