| The Week Ahead will end one season and will continue an already fast outdoor season. The 2008 Team U.S. World Cross Country squads will be heading to the 36th annual IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh, Great Britain. There our top runners will face the greatest cross country runners in the world and with names like Zersenay Tadese, Kenenisa Bekele, and Craig Mottram its sure to be a tough job. So, I would like to once again announce the U.S. qualifiers on there great accomplishment. Please bare with me as I announce all of the names. The senior men's team will be lead by Jorge Torres and for the first time his twin brother Edwardo will join him on the same team. The list will also includes Ed Moran, Josh Rohatinsky, James Carney, Max King, Ryan Bak, Scott Bauhs, and Jonathan Pierce. On the women's side veteran Katie McGregor will lead the way along with Renee Metivier-Baillie, Kathy Newberry, Amy Hastings, Emily Brown, and rounding out will be Molly Huddle. The future of USA running is bright with the boy's junior race qualifiers German Fernandez, Ryan Sheridan, Emil Heineking, Bobby Moldovan, Kevin Williams, and lastly Benjamin Johnson. The future of women's racing is just as bright with qualifiers by the likes of Alex Gits, Emily Reese, Marissa Treece, Emily Schwitzer and Lauren Saylor. This is an incredible achievement and I am sure that everyone involved is honored to be a part of this historical race. The race will look to break the previous record for the most IAAF Member countries in the race with over 76. (letsrun.com) Like I said before this outdoor season all though only roughly two weeks into it has already produced some fast times. I personally was on site this past weekend for Travis Padgett's wind-aided 10.11 in the 100. If I were to say anything about that performance I would have to say yes, he did look like he was flying. However, lets not forget the 13.47 performance from South Carolina's Jason Richardson in the 110m hurdles and 12.81 in the 100m hurdles from Kristi Castlin of Virginia Tech, which is now the school record for that event. This outdoor season will be one to watch because of the surprise Arizona State Red Devils. The big question is will they be able to repeat on both the men and women sides? That could truly be difficult with Florida State's men now at full strength. However make sure to check the results of the upcoming weekend because expect the times that have already been posted to be lowered each and every week. The college meets to pay close attention too this weekend will be the Alabama Relays, Arizona State Invitational, Emory Classic, Florida State Relays, LSU Tiger Relays, Penn State Jim Thorpe Invitational, Raleigh Relays, Southern Illinois Spring Classic, and the Washington Preview. Good luck to all the teams/individuals competing this weekend be safe and run fast! Always make sure to check out the News and Results on the Flotrack Website for any extra information!
