DII weekend review..

Track is back in full stride. Many meets have been contested, ranging from large meets like the Texas relays (which you can watch right here on Flotrack) to smaller ones. Needless to say, there was plenty of running action this past weekend in the NCAA Divisions and in NAIA. With so much action, it is easy to miss some of the great Division II performances. Below is a summary of some of the highlights.

2008 Oliver Nikoloff Invitational Ashlandâ€™s menâ€™s and womenâ€™s women team placed second at this meet to the host school, University of Cincinnati, Ohio. Ashlandâ€™s women scored 105 points to Cincinnatiâ€™s 243. The men scored 130 to Cincinnatiâ€™s 203. Findlayâ€™s Kirby Blackley came in second in the womenâ€™s 100 meters with a time of 12.13. Ashlandâ€™s Alissa Klaehn placed third in the womenâ€™s 200 meters with a time of 24.69, followed by the Findlay duo of Kirby Blackley (24.74) and Pamela Bullock (24.76). Ashlandâ€™s Joe Horn came in second in both the menâ€™s 200 meters (21.79) and 400 meters (48.42). His teammate, Max Hiltner, placed second in 800 meters with a time of 1:53. Ashlandâ€™s Brandon Bauer won the 3,000 meter steeplechase running a time of 9.25.33.

Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational Stonehillâ€™s men came in second to Tufts with 140.5 points to Tuftsâ€™ 171.50. In the menâ€™s 100 meter dash, UMass Lowellâ€™s Johan Rafael won with a time of 10.77 over Stonehillâ€™s Torrey Price, who ran 10.78. Stonehillâ€™s Kevin Gill ran 3:59 to win the menâ€™s 1500 meters.

In the womenâ€™s team competition, UMass Lowell came in second to Boston College, the teams scoring 114.50 points and 125.50 points respectively. Bryantâ€™s Stephanie Montagano won the womenâ€™s 400 meter dash in a time of 59.27. UMass Lowellâ€™s Lauren Raimondi came in first in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.36.

PSAC West Challenge Slippery Rock won the team competition on both the menâ€™s and womenâ€™s side. The men scored 244.50 points, besting California University (120.50 points) and Indiana University of PA (100.50 points). The women scored 282 points over Lock Haven, which scored 144 points, and Clarion University, which ended the day with 108 points.

Slippery Rockâ€™s Lacey Cochran won the womenâ€™s 400 meters with a time of 57.25. Edinboroâ€™s Rachel Lanzel ran 4:38.38 to win the womenâ€™s 1500 meters. California Universityâ€™s Danielle Malay won the womenâ€™s 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.55. In the menâ€™s 100 meter dash, Slippery Rockâ€™s Brad Mueller won with a time of 10.56. California Universityâ€™s Bradley Rager won the menâ€™s 400 meter dash in 48.35. Slippery Rockâ€™s Jeff Weis won the 1500 meters with a time of 3:52. He was followed by Lock Havenâ€™s Brandon Pomerantz with a time of 3:54 and Slippery Rockâ€™s Pat Reagan 3:56.

PSAC East Challenge In the womenâ€™s competition, East Stroudsburg took home top honors with 179 points over Kutztown (172.5 points) and Shippenburg (156.5 points). In the menâ€™s competition, Kutztown won with 190 points, followed by Shippensburg with 147 points and East Stroudsburg with 141.5 points. East Stroudsburgâ€™s Katherine Doyle ran 12.23 to win the 100 meters over Shippensburgâ€™s Shannon Hare who ran a 12.56.

Texas Relays Abilene Christian had a very good showing at the Texas Relays. Freshman Winrose Karunde won the 5,000 meters, as well as the 3, 000 meter steeplechase. Her time of 17:04.30 in the 5000 crushed the rest of the field that had assembled at Mike Myers Stadium by more than 25 seconds. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, she cruised home in a time of 10:29.81, winning the race and automatically qualifying for next month's national meet. The ACU women's 4x400 relay team put together a strong effort Friday afternoon, winning its heat in 3:43.47, a strong provisional qualifying time and the best time in NCAA Division II this season. On the men's side, freshman Ramon Sparks posted a personal-best in the triple jump, finishing fifth in the event with a mark of 50-2.50, which automatically qualifies him for the national championship meet. On his way to a fifth-place finish, ACU decathlete Camille Vandendriessche had a record-setting day at the Texas Relays on Thursday as he posted the best point total in NCAA Division II this season. Vandendriessche also broke ACU's record for second-day points in the decathlon with 3,902; he eventually finished the competition with a total of 7,559 points, which automaticly qualifies him for next month's NCAA Division II outdoor championship meet. Kellie Clements won the women's shot put with a mark of 48-8.25 to better her provisional qualifying mark in that event. Stanford Invitational At the Stanford invitational there were many great distance performances. On the menâ€™s side, Lock Havenâ€™s senior distance runner Ryan Blood qualified for the national meet as he turned in a time of 29:45 in the 10K race placing 18th at the Stanford Invitational. In the same race, Queen's Daniel Kanyaruhuru ran only 18 seconds off of the A qualifying standard for the Olympics running 28:22 for the 10k. Chico Stateâ€™s Tim Tollefson won his section of the Steeplechase running a personal best of 9:05.21 and automatically qualifying for the national meet. His teammate, Angel Marquez (14:18.33) won his section of the 5,000 meters. Western Washingtonâ€™s Jordon Welling finished sixth in his heat with a time of 14:34.09.Nate Peck and Nick Polk of Grand Valley also competed 5k. Peck ran 14:00.91 and Polk finished in 14:26.23 which qualified both for the nationals. In menâ€™s field events, Chico Stateâ€™s Jared Russell won the â€œBâ€ section of the javelin throw with a toss of 188-11 and in shot put; Chico Stateâ€™s Matt Jarvis took second in the â€œBâ€ section with a heave of 53-03.5.

On the womenâ€™s side, Alaska Anchorageâ€™s Laura Carr placed 7th in her 5000 meters heat with a time of 16:56.48 which is the best Division II 5000 meter time this season. Western Washingtonâ€™s Sarah Porter finished 13th in her heat of the women's 5,000 with the time of 17:38.86. Seattle Pacificâ€™s Jane Larson won her heat of the 1500 meters with a time of 4:29.66. which placed her 7th overall in the standings.Chico Stateâ€™s Lindsay Nelson finished fourth in her section with the time of 17:13.30
