D2 review-Conference continued...

This past weekend was the last chance for athletes to qualify for the 2008 NCAA DII National championships, which will be held in Walnut, California, the weekend of May 24. This past week wrapped up the conference meets and there were many spectacular performances. You all (just to let you know I almost just typed yâ€™all) know that I like to hear your opinions, so if I missed anything let me know. Also, I would like to know your picks for the championships, and I will provide mine next week.

Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference RMAC conference championship was held from May 4 to May 6 at Western State College. Adams State took both the menâ€™s (255 points) and the womenâ€™s (246 points) title. They were followed by Western Stateâ€™s men (158 points) and women (176 points).

In the womenâ€™s 100 meters, Adams Stateâ€™s Sherline Duncan set an RMAC championship record with a time of 11.84, which is a provisional qualifying mark. Her teammate, Indira Spence, set the RMAC championship record in the prelims of the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.99. Spence won the final in a time of 24.05. Adam State freshman, Michelle Williams, won the 400 meters in a time of 55:30. Her teammate, Sofia Monroe, won the 800 meters in an automatic qualifying time of 2:11.86. This time was also another RMAC championship record. Adams Stateâ€™s Tanya Gaurmer won the 1500 meters in a time of 4:41.75.

In the menâ€™s 800 meters there were two automatic qualifiers with Adam Stateâ€™s Corey Da La Cruz (1:50.83) and Metro Stateâ€™s Anthony Luna (1:51.07). In the menâ€™s 1500 meters there were four automatic qualifiers: Adam Stateâ€™ Aaron Braun (3:52.59), Brian Medigovich (3:55.25), Ryan McNiff (3:57.85) and Chadron Stateâ€™s Joe Schultz (3:57.94). In the menâ€™s 3000 meter steeplechase, Adams Stateâ€™s Reuben Chebon-Mwei (9:29.4) automatically qualified along with Western Stateâ€™s Scott Dahlberg (9:35.4).

Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference In the womenâ€™s team competition, University of Mary won with 214.5 points over Minnesota State University with 145 points. In the menâ€™s competition, Wayne State took top honors with 164 points followed by University of Mary with 156.5 points.

In the womenâ€™s 100 meter hurdles, Wayne Stateâ€™s Rachel Roebke ran a new NSIC record of 14.26 and also provisionally qualifyed. In the womenâ€™s pole vault, Minnesota Stateâ€™s Jennifer Hensel automatically qualified with a vault of 3.91 m. Her teammate, Ashley Roemer, set an NSIC record in the heptathlon with 4755 points. In the menâ€™s 400 meter hurdles, Northern Stateâ€™s Jake Hamik broke his own NSIC record running a time of 52.60. Bemidji Stateâ€™s Joe Remitz automatically qualified in the menâ€™s shot put with a throw of 18.76 meters.

North Central Conference South Dakota claimed the women's title with 255 points to 164 points over second-place Minnesota State. On the menâ€™s side, Minnesota State took home the plaque with 283.5 points over second-place South Dakota (167 points). The meet schedule was altered dramatically Friday afternoon for safety reasons due to weather. As a result, all events were run as finals on Friday night, with only the 3000 steeplechase, 3000 meter run and 5000-meter run left for Saturday morning. The severe weather created difficult conditions for both the running and field events, and, as a result, very few athletes hit qualifying times.

South Dakotaâ€™s Steph Gebhart won the womenâ€™s 400 meters in an automatic qualifying time of 54.62. Her teammate, Emma Erickson, won the womenâ€™s 800 meters in the time of 2:11.22. North Dakotaâ€™s Heidi Evans won the womenâ€™s 1500 meters in the time of 4:31.77. Augustanaâ€™s Rachel Strangler won the womenâ€™s 3000 meters in the time of 10:34.85.
