Quick Hits, Day 3 - US Olympic Team Trials

Quick Hits Day 3

Gators Up Next | Jeff Demps incredible season ended Sunday afternoon when he failed to qualify for the Mens 100m Finals. Demps will be a Florida Gator this fall and hopes to get home soon to grab his football helmet and start practicing. Yesterday he set the All-time High School Record at 10.01 .

A Thousandth | Wallace Spearmon barely missed out on Sunday night's Mens 100m Finals finishing 5th in his Heat with a 10.178. Leroy Dixon managed to nip Spearmon with a 10.179 that kept the Lynx photo booth scrambling to annouce the last qualifier.

Breeze | With a hot track beneath her, Sonya Richards breezed easily in her heat with a 51.08 in the Womens 400m.

Tyson Winds | Gay ran the fastest time by a human ever under any condition. Bolts record remains safe as the wind conditions were not legal for the WR to stand. When asked to compare yesterday to todays race, Gay replied "Yesterdays run felt faster..." Tyson has been in the game long enough to know what a legal race feels like when facings these conditions.

Tyson Stays | Showing he's as much about the fans as he is about running, Gay walked around the track following his ceremony and posed for thousands of pictures, autographs and talks with fans.

Richards Debuts Alternate | While winning Heat 3 of the Quarterfinals, Sonya Richards wore Nike's new black and white alternate Team USA jersey.

T.R.W | Another trio are heading to Beijing in August. Womens 400m Hurldes winner Tiffany Ross-Williams led from wire-to-wire (54.03) with Queen Harrison and Sheena Tosta finishing close behind in the Womens 400m Hurdles.

Biggest Crowd Reactions | 1. Tyson Gay runs fastest race under any condition in history 2. Ashton Eaton winning his 400 Heat in the Decathlon 3. Crowd being told NBC was broadcasting live half way through the day.

Attendance Update | Hayward reached 20,733 on Sunday.

Weather | Another hot and humid afternoon in Eugene. Just last Thursday weather had been a pleasant 74 until the trials began Friday. Since that point, Eugene has seen its hottest weather of the year. Relief is set to arrive tomorrow with a high of 82 off the mark of Sundays, 92. Winds picked up in the afternoon spoiling a World Record, or rather, aiding in it.
