9.69!!! BOLT SETS NEW WR IN 100M FINAL

Usain Bolt showed the world he is still the fastest man on Earth.  Bolt became the first man to ever break the 9.70 barrier (in legal conditions 0.0 m/s) for 100m.  Bolt was not the first out of the blocks, but he soon after took the lead and never looked back.  His celebration started about 10 meters before the finish line.....could you imagine the time if he ran straight threw the line!!

Richard Thompson, the 2008 NCAA Champion, ran a strong race to to set his PB (9.89) and win Silver for his native country of Trinidad.  Walter Dix set a PB (9.91) to take home the Bronze for the US.  Dix become the USA's medal favorite after American Record Holder Tyson Gay failed to qualify for the finals.

The highly anticipated matchup between Bolt and fellow countryman, Asafa Powell, did not live up to expectations as Powell finished a distant 5th in 9.95.  The third Jamaican in the field, Michael Frater, ran a lifetime best of 9.97 to finish 6th.

Martina Churandy, formerly of UTEP, set the national record for Netherlands Antilles in 9.93 to finish 4th.  Marc Burns of Trinidad was 7th in 10.01 and Darvis (Doc) Patten of the United States finished 8th in 10.03.

Ya I'm tired of bob Costas talking about beach volley ball for four hours before michale phelps race. Lets just give Michale all the golds now and get it over with. Even the ones he didn't swim because he is only aqua man. Is there a test for that. Check and see if he has fish parts or something?

Didn't we see that NBC guy on track revolution tell us that cameras would be going all the time and any event you wanted to see would be accessable on their website after NBC went off the air that night? By that logic we should be able to watch the w 10000m right now. That was a load of crap. They have a recap of the day and that is it. Not even 1 lap. Either things didn't work as they said or they were just placating track fans with no intention of doing any of it. They did better with the trials and I did not like that.

And you know what I love. I love how NBC on their website tell you the winner and the times and give pictures of race. I sat on my computer through the semi's and final looking for feeds cause i knew NBC wasn't making an attempt at showing it. Eventually just went to the IAAF website to get results. Then found site on YouTube before it got shut down. I wish I knew about that feed site earlier, but i'm completely done with NBC, donate money to ABC maybe they can buy the olympics back.

What were Americans doing in the Commonwealth 100m final? Only joking!

This is absolutely terrible coverge. I cannot begin to expalin how this is being done. There is no structure...and I agree with Leo, does anyone know where to get video coverage, beause NBC dnow not seem to know how to cover events. And seeing the finals only is stupid. I want to see the all for an event. heats, semi, etc. And they keep giving highlights as if they are going to show an event and it's not aired until the finals, IF SOMEONE THEY are following makes it the the finals. FYI....all schedules and results are on the offical olumpic website. I get it all there, but I also want to see the event before I get the results.. post a comment if you want the site address

Ryan...Thanks for the info. I may be asking too much - but I wish there was a reference for archives. I understand the 100m will be on tonight - however - I will not be in front of a TV.

Spoil away folks...its the only way I seem to get information. Maybe I should go back to depending on the next days paper!

Mark,

I cannot say enough bad things about NBC! The other night I wanted to find results on the womens 10K - and they were no help! I did not want to stay up until 4am to catch the 100m. I am certain NBC's coverage would have placed a commercial at about halfway and made us wait for the results!!!
Therefore, I depend on the Internet.
Does anyone know if there are video footage of events? It would be nice to see the buildup - heats, semi, quarters as well as the final!
