DEENA KASTOR DROPS OUT OF OLYMPIC MARATHON

Deena Kastor has dropped out of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Marathon.  Story below

The Olympic Marathon got underway at 7:30am Beijing time/7:30pm Eastern US time.  Through the first 1k the pace was about 2:43 marathon pace so nothing too crazy.  There was a large pack that included favorites such as Paula Radcliffe and Deena Kastor.  At about 20 minutes into the race, Deena Kastor stepped off the side of the road, reached down and grabbed her foot.  The pack continued on as Deena stood there on the streets of Beijing.

No word yet on exactly what happened to Deena, but it was said that she told reporters that "something popped" in her foot..  We will try to update as we know.  If you hear anything please comment below this article so everyone gets the word.

For now, Blake and Magda are still in it so good luck to them.  Blake is towards the front of the pack at 30 mins.  Are thoughts are with Deena.

It was tight during the race and then I felt a pop in my foot. I couldn't stand on it. I didn't expect to be finishing the marathon in a bus. We prepare forever for the marathon, and I had a sound race plan. I was excited to get out there and try to win another medal to make my country proud. As athletes, we have ups and downs. Unfortunately, you can't pick the days when they come on." reply

#2	Shame   August 16, 2008 at 7:09pm its a shame that she put in all that hard work, all those 140+ miles per week to drop out after three!! this had to be an existing injury for her to drop out after three miles at a slow pace. go chewy!! reply
