Results - Prairie Inn Harrier's - High Performance Invitational

Victoria, BC - August 23, 2008 - Jack Wallace Memorial Track - The 2nd Annual Harrier's High Performance Invitational took place under perfect summer conditions, no wind, mild and with a start time of 8:00 pm PST, cooling temperatures.

The primary event, (although three distances started together), was the 10 000m race between David Jackson, Jim Finlayson and Todd Howard all of Victoria and Jason Warick of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan who DNF'd. All are tuning up for a crack at an autumn marathon where they will attempt qualifying for the Marathon World Championships, which will take place in Berlin, Germany.

Warick explained after the race that his left hamstring is acting up and he want's to avoid injury before his upcoming marathon; he nearly went 8k tailing just off the lead.

Todd Howard led for most of the first half of the 10000m however, it was into the middle of the race before any separation happened between the four 10000m contestants.

As Jackson and Finlayson broke away from Howard, they exchanged leads until Finlayson pulled away for good over the final few laps, finishing with a 2 second positive split in 30:18.

Finlayson joked around with the crowd that he considered cancelling the event after watching the Olympic Women's 10000m finish in a world best time of 29:54'66 by Tirunesh Dibaba and the men's marathon 10k split at just under 30:00.

In addition to the 10000m distance there was a 5000m and 3000m race. University of Victoria Vikes varsity runner, Sean Chester enjoyed a near 25 second personal best finishing in 15:04.
