DII Weekend Review Sept.26

Conference meets are about a month away, and this weekend’s races gave teams a good indication of their strengths, and what they will need to work on in the upcoming weeks. There were a wide variety of races nationwide, and I am highlighting but a few of them.  As always, I urge you to contribute additional results and comments below. Flotrack can only be made better with your respectful and courteous feedback.

Stanford Invitational- In the women’s 6k race, Seattle Pacific’s Jessica Pixler was the top DII finisher. She placed 6th in a time of 21:22. Pixler led her team to 18th place finish overall. Chico State was the top DII team finishing 6th with 227 points.

In the men’s 8k race, Chico State’s Scotty Bauhs finished 1st overall covering the 8k course in 23:45. Bauhs led his team to a 4th place overall finish with 122 points, making them the highest placing DII team. His teammate, Brendan Scanlon, was 17th overall in the time of 24:57.

Roy Griak  Invitional (Coverage can be found here on Flotrack)- The biggest story of the meet was the stellar showing of both of Adams State’s squads in the Gold (DI) races. The women’s team placed 6th with 251 points and was led by senior, Lavanna Mullenbach, who covered the 6k course in 21:50. The men’s team pulled off an amazing upset, winning the Gold division with 75 points over Iowa State with 89 points. Adam’s State  Reuben Chebon-Mwei finished 5th overall covering the 8k course in 24:16.

In the Maroon DII women’s race, Minnesota Duluth’s Morgan Place finished first in 22:16.1, followed by Grand View’s Obsie Birru (22:30.2) and Minnesota Duluth’s Liz Palkie (22:34.0). Augustana took the team title with 54 points followed by Pittsburg State (129) and Minnesota-Mankato (160).

In the Maroon DII men’s race, Huntington’s Nicholas Johnson took top honors with 25:15.1 behind the unattached Justin Grunewald (25:09). Third place was Drury’s Jaime Villa Zapatero (25:26.5). Drury won the men’s title with 109 points followed by Pittsburg State (120) and Minnesota-Mankato (128).

Jaguar Invitational- In the second annual Jaguar Invitational, Anderson’s Whitney Bishoff set a new course record covering the women’s 6k hilly course in 24:10.10.  She was followed by Augusta State’s Jenafer Forward (24:23.30) and Coker’s Kendyl Seawright (25:24.50). Augusta State took top honors on their own course winning with a low score of 39. Anderson University was second with 69 points and University of Montevallo was third with 84 points.

Citadel Invitational - I am proud to report that my roommate and teammate, Carson Newman’s Aubrey Morris, won the meet with a PR of 18:25.76 over the flat 5k course. The next DII finisher was Lenoir Rhyne’s Gienna Eisenmann with a time of 19:17.41. In the team competition, Lees-McRae was the first DII team with 93 points followed by Lenoir Rhyne (112) and Converse (144).
