BUPA Great North Run – October 6, 2008 – Newcastle, UK – Canadians Jon Brown and David Jackson raced the BUPA Great North Run, half marathon Sunday, October 6, 2008 under sunny skies, leading the largest half marathon field in the world with 52, 000 participants.

Brown of Victoria, BC finished 11th over-all with a time of 1:03:36, splitting 10k in 29:59 and 20k in 1:00:27. Brown is preparing to race the 62nd annual Fukuoka International Open Marathon Championships, which takes place Sunday, December 7, 2008 in Fukuoka, Japan.

Jon Brown owns a half marathon personal best of 1:01:49.

David Jackson also of Victoria, who trains under Jon Brown finished with a 22 second personal best time of 1:06:39. His 10k split was 30:52 and 20k 1:03:07. Jackson is also training for an upcoming yet to be determined fall marathon.

Overall winner Tsegaye Kebede of Ethiopia led all the way to be the only finisher under one hour, clocking in at 59:45, top 20 finishers are listed below.

In a much closer women's race, Gete Wami also of Ethiopia won over Britian’s Jo Pavey and Magdelane Mukunzi of Kenya, despite a super finishing effort from Pavey. Pavey just missed the win by just two seconds, second place by 1 second and from becoming the first British runner since Paula Radcliffe five years ago to win the Bupa Great North Run.

David Jackson played varsity basketball in Ontario, didn't start running seriously until a few years ago. He keeps improving, this race was another little step in the right direction.

Jon is 37 I beleive.

How old is Brown now? The guy still gets it done,

What about his athlete Jackson, never heard of him?

Look for Brown to run a 2:10-2:11 in Japan, then WE WILL SEE if he has a 2:08/9 in him again.!!!
