What's to see in D3 - Conference Recaps

Ok so I did not get as many conference previews up last week as I wanted to, however, I did call many of the upsets both team and individual. The one team champion I did not call was from my old conference (how about that). I will admit I had a good feeling that NYU would pull it out, but I just could not get myself to say the words, but congrats to the Violets as Coach Mcdonough and his squad did it again. 

I did not have an interview this week...again, my bad, but this coming week is an off week for just about every team, so I will do my best to get an interview done as there will not be much else to write about next week. Also as there was not a new poll this week, I am simply going to go through the list of conferences and detail the champions (team and in most cases individual) and if there were notable runners up, I will list them as well. There is alot to get through so if I do not give your conference as much attention as you would like/think it deserves, my apologies.

Allegheny Mountain

Men: Penn State Behrend wins the team title, as Franciscan's Jones took the individual crown

Women: Fransican won as a team led by individual Erin Bliss.

American Southwest

Men: Texas Tyler's Warren Brown leads his team to the championship

Women: Kellie Kirby leads Mississippi College to a team and individual title

Capital

Salisbury sweeps the team titles, as Devar and Sullivan of Mary Washington take the individual crowns

Centential

Dickinson's Men were the first team in conference history to beat Haverford. Haverford finished second, with Johns Hopkins third on the men's side. Greg Leak of Dickinson was the top individual. Johns Hopkin's Paulson led her team to a conference championship over Dickinson (second) and Haverford (third).

CUNYAC

Brooklyn sweeps team titles

CCIW

North Central Men defeat Augustana, while Wheaton wins Women's title. Wheaton has top individuals in Mull and Baumert

Colonial States

Gwynedd Mercy Men, Key Stone Women

Empire 8

Contested last weekend, Ithaca swept the team titles led by Hodge on the Men's side and Nadolski on the Women's side, both conference champs

Great Northeast

Johnson & Wales Men, St. Joseph's (Maine) Women

Great South

I could not locate results

Heartland Collegiate

Franklin sweeps team titles

IIAC

Luther College wins mens title, Wartburg wins women's title over Luther. Chenoweth of Wartburg and Corken of Loras are individual champs

Landmark

Susquehana sweeps team titles

Liberty League (contested on Oct 4)

St. Lawrence sweeps all titles led by Ramsey and Pavlus

Little East

Keene State wins mens and womens titles as Jasud of Southern Maine and Keene's Marcotte are individual champions

MASCAC

Fitchburg state men, Westfield state women

MIAA

Led by Christiansen Calvin College wins the men's title over Hope. Calvin women also won over second place Hope, as Kalamazoo's Iott was the top individual

Middle Atlantic States

Messiah wins on the men's side. Elizabethtown upsets nationally ranked Messiah on the women's side. Kooser of Messiah won the women's individual crown

Midwest

Grinnell Men win with only 15 points led by Reich. Monmouth wins women's team title

MIAC

St. Olaf led by Ruon takes the men's Title over Hamline and St. Thomas, while the St. Thomas women won their 3rd straight, defeating Bethel (second) and Carleton (third). Bethel's Borner was the top female on the day.

NECC

Daniel Webster men and Lesley women

NESCAC

The men's race was close to prediction as Hamilton's Kosgei won big, while Williams won as a team over Trinity (second) and Amherst (third). As for the women, Williams and Middlebury tied, followed by Colby (third), Tufts (fourth) and Amherst (fifth). Amherst Tropiano won the women's individual title.

NEWMAC

MIT won the men's and women's team and individual titles led by Ruzevick and Wentz

New Jersey

TCNJ swept all four titles led by Guerriero and McGrath

North Atlantic

Lyndon State Men and Maine-Farmington Women

North Coast

Allegheny defeated Denison (led by Russo) on the Men's side, while Kenyon defeated Ohio Wesleyan (second) and Oberling (third, led by Johnson)

North Eastern

University of Dallas Men and Cobleskill Women

Northern Athletics

Rockford Men and Aurora Women

Northwest

Whitworth ended Willamette's streak on the Men's side while Willamette led by Coffman won on the Women's side

Ohio

Ohio Northern swept the team titles, defeating Mt. Union on the men's side in the process

Old Dominion

Lynchburg men, Washington & Lee women

Presidents' 

Grove City sweeps team titles

Skyline

Maritime St. Joesph's men and St. Joseph's women (conference website had 2007 results up)

SCIAC

Perhaps one of the more confusing conference championship systems around because of the championship meet and the multi-dual meet. At the November 1 race, the Claremont men and women took home the team title, however only the women were named conference champions. On the men's side this distinction was given to OXY, as they placed second at the championship meet, but went an undefeated 7-0 compared to Claremont's 5-2 record at the duals. This meant that after the championship race, Claremont still had two loses compared to OXY's 1 giving the title to OXY. 

Southern Collegiate

Centre led by Chase Wilson win on the men's side while Depauw takes down the women's crown

St. Louis Intercollegiate

Fontbonne men and Greenville women

SUNYAC

Cortland defeats Geneseo on the men's side, only to be reversed on the women's side (not unexpected). Cortland's Debois and Palen were the top man and woman on the day

Commonwealth Coast

Roger Williams sweeps team titles

University Athletic Association

Men: NYU wins for the third year in a row, upsetting favorite Carnegie Mellon as host Emory finishes third. Unranked Brandeis was fourth, while 12th ranked Case finished 5th. NYU's Schneider won the individual title.

Women: Case defeated Wash U who had individual champion Surtees, while host Emory was again third.

Upper Midwest

Martin Luther men, College of St. Scholastica women

USA South

Christopher Newport sweeps team championships

WIAC

Men: Steven's Point wins, Oshkosh second as favored but not predicted) Lacrosse finishes third. Oshkosh's Kaul was the top man. 

Women: Favored Eau Claire wins over Oshkosh (second) and Lacrosse (third). River Falls' Becca Jordahl wins in an "upset"

#8	Bitter   November 8, 2008 at 1:59pm Swarthmore women, who have been minus at least 2 of their top 5 all year, finally had everyone run in the same race at conferences. They basically tied Haverford despite 2 of their top 5 dropping out during the race although one did regroup and finish in the top 30. I hear everyone is healthy though. If they can keep it together wouldn't be surprised with a big time run at regionals. reply

#5	Dan Suher   November 3, 2008 at 11:32am It was considered an "upset" as I stated in the preview, because the defending champion was back and she had a rough last couple of races after a very good start. In reality it was not really an upset. reply
