The 2009 indoor track season is back in full stride. There were many meets from coast to coast, many of which I cover below. As usual, I urge you the reader to comment if there is anything I have missed. Air Force Academy All Comers Meet- Colorado School of the Mines’ Kiera Benson placed third in the women’s 60 meters with a provisional qualifying time of 7.71. University of Colorado at Colorado Spring’s Melissa McKinley (2:23.08) and Kelsey Barry (2:23.40) took second and third in the 800 meters. Mesa State’s Esmeralda Martinez-Ramos took third in the 3000 (11:28.30). In the men’s 800 meters, Colorado School of the mines’ Mark Husted took first in a provisional qualifying time of 1:53.77. Maryland Terrapin Invitational- Saint Augustine’s Angelique Smith clocked the quickest time in the women’s 200m with a provisional qualifying time of 25.00. Bowie State’s Elaine Rhoads took second in the women’s triple jump with a provisional jump of 11.45 meters. In the men’s 60 meters, Saint Augustine’s Dennis Boone and Travon Lee took the first and second. Boone ran an automatic qualifying time of 6.74, and followed that up with an automatic qualifying time of 21.83 in the 200 meters. His teammates Ramon Grittens (21.91) and Richard Boone (22.10) also clocked very fast times. Saint Augustine’s Josh Scott took first in the 400 meters with a time of 48.28. Scott was followed by teammate Antonio Abney, who ran a time of 49.79. Saint Augustine’s Joe Kindred won the men’s long jump with an automatic qualifying jump of 7.40 meters. Holiday Inn Invitational- Nebraska-Omaha’s Maja Mihalinec took second in the women’s 60 meters with a provisional qualifying time of 7.67. She followed this with a second place in the women’s 200 meters, running a provisional qualifying time of 24.93. Nebraska-Omaha duo of Pinar Saka (53.36) and Anja Puc (55.39) took first and second in the 400 meters, both automatically qualifying for Nationals. Texas Tech Invitational- Abilene Christian had a number of qualifying performance this weekend at the Texas Tech Invitational. Abilene Christian’s Ramon Sparks came in second in the long jump with a provisional qualifying jump of 7.17 meters. In the women’s weight throw, Jessica Sloss placed third with the provisional throw of 16.72 meters. Her teammate, Kelli Clements, hit a provisional mark in the women’s shot put with a throw of 14.01 meters. Abilene trio of Gerald Chenyi (15.04 m), Ramon Sparks (14.77 m) and Jeremiah Idiato (14.45) all hit provisional marks in the men’s triple jump. Teammate Andrew McDowell ran a 7.43 automatic qualifying mark in the men’s 55 meter hurdles. Abilene Christian’s Kim Prather came in third in the women’s 400 meter dash with a provisional qualifying time of 56.52. Her teammate, Raymond Radway came in fourth with a provisional qualifying time of 48.32. Abilene Christian’s Wanda Hutson came in second in the women’s 200 meters with an automatic qualifying time of 24.47. UW Indoor Preview- Western Oregon’s Annan Applebee (2:16.60) and Western Washington’s Rachel Johnson (2:17.11) both ran provisional qualifying times in the women’s 800 meters. In a section that included Kara Goucher and Sara Vaughn, Seattle Pacific’s Jane Larson held her own finishing with an automatic mile qualifying time of 4:51.46. In the 3000 meters, Seattle Pacific’s Jessica Pixler finished third behind Kara Goucher and Amy Yoder-Begley with a time of 9:23.24, one place in front of Stanford standout Ari Lambie. St. Martin’s John Riak ran the 3000 meters finishing in a time of 8:32.61. Freshman Alison Worthen of Seattle Pacific cleared 5 feet, 8 inches on Saturday to win top honors in the women’s high jump competition during the UW Indoor Preview at Dempsey Indoor. |
