DII Weekend Review-Jan. 23th-25th

It has been a week of change:  new President, new administration, and new marks for many DII runners. In meets from coast to coast, there were with some top athletes competing for the first time since before break. January is coming to close and we are inching ever closer to the DII Indoor National Championship. I have tried to cover as many meets as possible. If there is anything I have missed, go ahead and leave a comment.

Boston University Terrier Invitational- UMass Lowell’s Haley Catarius ran to a seventh place finish in the women’s 800 meters with a provisional qualifying time 2:14.43. Her teammate, Christiania DaLomba, came in twelfth in the women’s 1000 meters with a time of 2:57.43. UMass Lowell’s Sarah Brassard came sixteenth in the women’s mile with a time of 5:06.12.  

Stonehill’s Torrey Price came in second in the men’s 55 meter dash with a time of 6.44. New Haven’s Kevin Downing placed second in the men’s 200 meters with an automatic qualifying time of 21.82. Price also placed seventh the 200 with a provisional qualifying time of 22.18. UMass Lowell duo of Andrew Grange and Doug Caves placed second and third with provisional qualifying times of 48.05 and 48.18 in the men's 400m. In the men’s mile, UMass Lowell’s Joey DeWitt hit an automatic qualifying time of 4:10.90. He was followed by Stonehill’s Kevin Gill (4:11.67) and teammate Angus MacDonald (4:12.47). UMass Lowell’s Ruben Sanca ran an automatic qualifying time of 14:05.46 in the men’s 5k. UMass Lowell’s 4x400 meter team automatically qualified with a 3:16.44.

Northwest Ohio Invitational- Ashland’s Alissa Klaehn won the women’s 200 meter dash with a provisional qualifying time of 25.50. Klaehn also hit a provisional qualifying time in the 60 meter hurdles with a 8.81.  Her teammate Steph Tinney won the women’s 400 meter dash with provisional qualifying time of 57.94. Findlay swept first through sixth in the women’s 800 meters with Stephanie Charnigo hitting an automatic qualifying time of 2:13.72.

Ashland’s Carlin Isles won the men’s 60 meter dash with a provisional qualifying time of 6.82. He followed that by winning the 200 meter dash with a provisional qualifying time of 22.10. Findlay’s John Guagenti won the men’s 400 meter in a provisional qualifying time of 49.50. Ashland freshman, Carsten Krohn, ran a qualifying time of 8.16 in the preliminaries for the 60 meter hurdles .

Razorback Invitational- Missouri Southern’s Kimi Shank ran an amazing 5k, winning in an automatic qualifying time of 17:02.00. She was followed by Harding’s Esther Komen, who ran a provisional qualifying time of 17:50.60. Nebraska Omaha’s Pinar Saka placed third in the women’s 400 meters with an automatic qualifying time of 53.64. Missouri Southern’s Shannan Borgard won the women’s 800 meters in 2:17.63.  

 Harding’s Phillip Biowott won the men’s 5k in an automatic qualifying time of 14:18. He was followed by Missouri Southern’s Jarkko Jarvenpaa who ran a provisional qualifying time of 14:50.51. Harding’s Frank Bolling ran a provisional qualifying time of 1:54.87. Harding's Daniel Kirwa placed eighth in the championship mile with an automatic qualifying time of 4:05.

Lehigh John Covert Classic-In the men’s weight throw, East Stroudsburg’s Paul Wagner and Lockhaven’s Randy Sylvia threw 17.60 meters to provisionally qualify. Lockhaven’s Brandon Pomerantz placed second in the men’s 3k with 8:48.73.

UNM Cherry and Silver Invitational- Adams State’s Michele Williams ran a 56.82 for a provisional qualifying time in the women’s 400 meters. Her teammate, Sofia Monroe, came in second in the women’s 800 meters with an automatic qualifying time of 2:13.01. Vanessa Roy, another member of the Grizzlies squad, came in fourth with a provisional qualifying time of 2:14.85. Adams State’s Lavenna Mullenbach won the women’s 3k in 10:24.44.

Adams State’s Josh Streeter ran an automatic qualifying time in the men’s 400 meter with his 47.81. Colorado School of the Mine’s Mack McLain ran 4:14 in the mile for a provisional qualifying time. Adam State’s duo of Aaron Braun and Brian Medigovich took first and second in the men’s 3k with the time of 8:10.18 and 8:17.76.

Texas Tech Open-Abilene Christian’s Cory Altenburg won the men’s pole vault by clearing 5.05 meters to automatically qualify. Abilene Christian’s Wanda Hutson came in second in the 55 meter dash with the automatic qualifying time of 6.94. She won the women’s 200 meters with an automatic qualifying time of 24.25. In the men’s 55 meter dash, Abilene Christian’s Desmond Jackson provisionally qualified with 6.39.
