DII Weekend Review Feb.28-March 1

March came in like a lion for many, especially those hoping for the last chance to qualify for DII Indoor Championships on March 13 at the University of Houston. There were an array of meets ranging from conference races to last chance meets, and, as usual I tried to cover as many meets as possible covering automatic marks and fast times. If there is an event or performance that I missed, please leave the results in the comment section. After all, Flotrack is a community.

GLIAC Indoor Championships-Grand Valley State’s women won the meet with 205 points over Ashland (134) and Hillsdale College (77). In the women’s 800 meter run, Grand Valley’s Monica Kinney won with an automatic qualifying time of 2:11.98. Second place was Findlay’s Stephanie Charnigo with an automatic qualifying time of 2:13.03. In the women’s mile, Ferris’s Mikinize Stuart was milliseconds off of an automatic qualifying time, winning the event in a time of 4:57.94. Her teammate, Tina Muir, set a meet record with the time of 16:58.38, which is also an automatic qualifying mark. There were three automatic qualifying marks in the women’s 60 meters, including Grand Valley’s Candice Wheat (8.37), Findlay’s Raven Clay (8.38) and Ashland’s Alissa Klaehn (8.56). Grand Valley’s DMR automatically qualified with at time of 11:44.32.

Ashland’s men took the team title with 162 points over Grand Valley State (144) and Saginaw Valley State (111.50). Ashland’s Carlin Isles ran an automatic qualifying mark in the men’s 60 meters of 6.77. In the men’s 200 meters, the top three sprinters gained automatic qualifying marks: Tiffin’s Anthony Thomas (21.65), Joe Horn (21.68), and Carlin Isles (21.79). Ashland’s Dan Tierney won the men’s pole vault with a height of 5.25, which was a meet record and automatic qualifying mark. The men’s weight throw had three automatic qualifying marks, including Ashland’s Mike Jeffery (20.95) and Ryan Loughney (19.97) and Hillsdale Aaron Faulk (19.91).

Great Lakes Valley Conference- University of Indianapolis’s women won with 186 points followed by Lewis University (170) and Missouri Science and Technology (100.5). Missouri Science and Technology took the men’s title with 183 points, followed by University of Indianapolis (137) and Lewis University(128).

MIAA Conference Championships- Nebraska-Omaha won the women’s title with 94 points followed by Missouri Southern (92.5) and Central Missouri (77.5). Central Missouri’s Brittanie Roldan won the triple jump with an automatic qualifying jump of 12.23m. Nebraska-Omaha’s Pinar Saka won the 400 meters in an automatic qualifying time of 55.69. Pittsburg State’s Venessa Lee won the women’s 800 meters with the automatic qualifying time of 2:11.66, which was also a meet record. In the preliminaries of the women’s 200 meter, Saka ran an automatic qualifying time of 24.85.

Central Missouri won the men’s title with 139.33 points followed by Emporia State (126) and Pittsburg State (88). Central Missouri’s Drew Frizzell set a meet record with an automatic qualifying mark of 21.10 in the men’s weight throw. Pittsburg State’s Brian Allen came in second with an automatic qualifying mark of 19.01. Frizzell won the men’s shot put with an automatic qualifying mark of 17.50. Pittsburg State’s Kiara Jones won the men’s triple jump with an automatic qualifying jump of 15.29. His teammate, Jeremy Jackson hit the automatic qualifying mark in the preliminaries of the men’s 60 meter hurdles with the time of 8.01. Fort Hays State’s Bryan Haynes won the men’s 200 meters with an automatic qualifying time of 21.78.

New England Indoor Championships- UMass Lowell had a strong showing at this meet. Haley Catarius ran a 2:13.73 in the women’s 800 meters. In the men’s side, the UMass Lowell duo of Doug Caves (47.24) and Donte Brown (47.25) both hit automatic qualifying times in the men’s 400 meters placing first and second respectively. The men’s 4x400 meter team won with an automatic qualifying time of 3:13.92. UMass Lowell’s men’s distance squad also delivered impressive performances. Angus MacDonald barely missed the automatic qualifying time in the mile, running a 4:11.03, while Ruben Sanca won the 3000 meters in a time of 8:16.44. It was a close race in the men’s DMR with Umass Lowell coming in first (9:55.30) over Stonehill College (9:56.43), both teams garnering automatic qualifying time.

NSIC Indoor Championship- Minnesota State-Mankato University won the women’s team title with 150 points. They were followed by University of Minnesota-Duluth (127) and St. Cloud State (93). Minnesota State-Mankato University’s Brittany Henderson had a great day, securing two automatic qualifying times; she won the women’s 55 meter dash with in a time of 6.99, followed by stellar 200 meter dash of 24.70. Minnesota State-Mankato University’s Katelin Rains vaulted 4.30 for an automatic qualifying mark. Her teammate, Lauren Stelten, vaulted 3.95 for an automatic qualifying mark. Rains also hit an automatic qualifying mark in the women’s long jump with a distance of 5.91.

Minnesota State-Mankato University’s men’s team won the team title with 144.5 points. University of Minnesota-Duluth (95) were second and Concordia University (89) was third. Minnesota State-Mankato University’s Sam Lance set the 600 meter NSIC record with a time of 1:21.52. MSU-Moorhead’s Derik Brugger had an automatic qualifying vault of 5.18m. Minnesota State’s Dan Novak also had an automatic qualifying mark of 5.03m in the pole vault.

RMAC Championships- Adams State took both the men’s (214.50) and women’s (161) title. The men were followed by Western State (128.5) and Nebraska-Kearney (94.5). The women were followed by Western State (128) and Nebraska-Kearney (109). The women’s long jump had three auto marks, including Adams State’s Amanda Gylling (5.85), Nebraska-Kearney’s Kelli Dring(5.81), and New Mexico Highland’s Angella Graham (5.80). In the men’s 200 meter dash, Western State’s Nathan Dorzweiler won in an automatic qualifying time of 21.91. In the men’s mile, Colorado School of the Mines’s Mark McLain won the event in an automatic time of 4:10.80. Adams State’s Reuben Chebon-Mwei came in second with an automatic qualifying time of 4:12.44. Adam State’s Brian Medigovich won the men’s 5k with an automatic qualifying time of 14:28.13.

PSAC Indoor Championships- Slippery Rock took the women’s team title with 146 points followed by Shippensburg (142) and Lock Haven (101). Shippensburg’s Mary Dell won the women’s 800 meters with an automatic time of 2:12.84. Her teammate, Neely Spence, won the mile in a time of 4:54.71, barely besting Millersville’s Priscilla Jennings (4:54.90). Edinboro’s Rachael Lanzel won the women’s 5k with the automatic qualifying time of 16:44.22.

Shippensburg won the men’s title with 134 points over Lock Haven (129) and East Stroudsburg (120).
