Aaron Aguayo holds the school record in the steeple and the 5000 and has won the PAC 10 steeple all three years he has competed. If Aguayo wins the steeple he will be the only athlete other then Steve Prefontaine to win a PAC 10 event all four years. At the 2006 NCAA championships Aguayo finished third in the steeple after almost a year absence from the sport because of injuries. In 2004 Aguayo earned his first All-American honors when he finished 22nd at NCAA leading his team to a top ten team finish. The 2004 outdoor track season was disappointing because before the finals in the steeple Aguayo had to pull out due to injuries. As a freshman Aguayo came out of nowhere to kick past Stanford All-American Ian Dobson to win the PAC 10s.
