Jan Johnson is not only known as the 1972 bronze medalist in the Pole Vault, but also as the father of NCAA record holder, Chelsea Johnson. This is not surprising to people who know him well because Jan Johnson coaches in his own back yard. He built a pole vault mecca in his central Californian coastal town; he has Sky Jumpers camps and clubs virtually year round. In addition, Johnson coaches student athletes both in local high schools as well as at Cuesta College. Johnson has numerous coaching successes; he has coached a number of world class athletes including bronze medalist, Dean Starkey.
