As a freshman, Jordan Schilit failed to make the varsity cross country squad of Jesuit High School’s state championship team. However, he improved steadily in his 5K performance -- from 18:30 to 17:30 to 16:30 to 15:30 during his high school career, rising from his team’s #10 runner all the way to a top-16 national finisher at this year’s Nike Indoor National Championship in the 5,000m. Despite running in the shadow of a teammate over 4 years, Jordan has watched his 3200m time drop from 11:10 as a freshman to 9:22 as a senior. On May 2nd, Jordan finished his HS running career with an outstanding State Meet. He was the 3rd leg of Jesuit’s state championship winning 4x800m relay (7:47, US #6), placed 2nd in the 1600m and 3200m, and helped his team to a State Runner-Up performance overall. Jordan was never the star or true face of Jesuit’s program, but was always a determined and diligent athlete, who emerged as the team’s leader.
Off the track, Jordan has exemplified a perfect balance of great success in the classroom and participation in several of Jesuit High School’s extra-curricular clubs alongside his running. While taking several AP and Honors courses at a very prestigious high school, Jordan managed to be selected as President of the National Honor Society, was Editor-in-Chief of 3 publications, and completed close to 200 hours of community service. Jordan has received many academic awards from his high school and was also the recipient of West Point’s Norman H. Schwarzkopf Award, which honors the top-5 scholar-athlete-leaders in Florida. Also, Jordan was named as Jesuit High School’s #1 student-athlete and thus selected to represent his school for the Wendy’s National High School Heisman Scholarship.
In the fall, Jordan will continue his athletic and academic career at Haverford College in Haverford, PA. Jordan hopes to excel on the track and in the classroom simultaneously in college as he did in high school. He will continue his interests in writing and studio art, alongside writing for Milesplit.us, flrunners.com, flotrack.org, and Marathon & Beyond Magazine.
