Doug Padilla is one of the best US distance runners ever; he broke seven American records in three distances and represented the US at the Olympics twice. Padilla attended BYU where he was an eight time All-American and won the 1981 NCAA indoor title by out kicking the 1980 silver medalist, Suleiman Nyambui. Padilla?s Indoor two-mile victory was the first NCAA title by an American in a distance event since 1972. Padilla won five consecutive indoor titles from 1983-1987, four outdoor titles and two Olympic trials. Padilla was the first person to ever break the four min mile in Utah. Padilla still hold the American indoor 5k record.
