Clint Wells was a four-time All-American at the University of Colorado. On the track Wells concentrated on the steeplechase and finished 7th and 5th at the 95 and 96 NCAA championships and at the 2000 Olympic trials Wells was third going into the final lap but unfortunately he was out kicked and finished 5th. Wells qualified for world cross country twice and finished 41st in the world in 2001
