From my blog: www.albertostretti.org One month and it will be HamburgMarathon in north Germany with a completely fast and flat course where runnere can run absolutely strong. In Hamburg we are going to have an important debut such as Eliud Kipchoge.Kipchoge is one the most important athlete of last 10years winning Olympic and World medals in his amazing career. Last summer in Lille his promising debut in half with a very interesting 59:25 repeated few weeks ago with a very confortable 60:04 in Barcellona. I had reached Eliud Kipchoge now in tr...
When I sat down this morning to write a new blog for Flotrack, my intention was to update my fans on how my base training has been going. While I thought about going on and on about the countless miles I have been running or the hours spent in the gym, this all seemed a bit insignificant in comparison to the real adventure that I have been having this winter. To properly tell that story, I need to share with you a secret that I have kept for many years. At home, in a safe place, is a sheet of paper that no one else knows of. It is a...
Houston Here I Come! I'm just a few days away from my first race of 2013, the Aramco Houston half marathon, and I'm extremely excited and anxious to get on that start line! Much has changed since I raced in London, but I have been working hard and I'm looking forward to testing myself against a stellar field on Sunday. These past few months have been full of changes for me. I am still a Nike athlete, but I am no longer living and training in Portland as a part of the Oregon Track Club. In September, I made the very difficult decision to leave J...
I’ve been looking forward to doing this race for more than a year now. That seems pretty weird to say about any race besides an Olympic Trials race, but there is a reason behind that. I was originally scheduled to make my half marathon debut at this race last year. What better time to do it? So many of my teammates were preparing for the Marathon Trials in Houston the day before, so we would be able to do a lot of the same training together; and I thought it would be the perfect way to end my fall/winter schedule, then take a break and ge...
Johanna Olson and I are kindred spirits. We both grew up in quiet, small towns in west central Minnesota about twenty-five miles apart. Even though she was seven years older than me, I knew who "Johanna Olson from Wadena-Deer Creek" was and looked up to her. We both grew up with a love of running and experienced some small-school successes. The running brought us both to collegiate teams where our promising careers, hers in 1997 as a freshman at Luther College, and mine as a senior at Minnesota in 2009, were wrinkled by discoveries of cancer. J...
Why the U.S. should take a page out of Great Britain's book for success in 2013 In February 2011, Mo Farah shocked the track world by announcing that he would move to Portland, Oregon, to train under Alberto Salazar as a member of the Oregon Distance Project. Salazar’s love of cutting edge training methods, emphasis on small, incremental, development, and strong record with protégée, Galen Rupp, proved too much for Farah to pass up as he looked towards the Olympics in his home nation of Great Britain. The move meant Farah c...
8:00a.m. Stretch, ate a good breakfast. Some carbs mixed with some protein. Drove to Davidson College to do a 41 min run on the trails. They have a 5k and 8k course. I try to stay off the hard surfaces this summer all together. The only hard surface training is: Hills- 50-150m and fast intervals- 150-300m. It's good to get off the track every now and then. I don't run slowly on the hard surface,it beats up your knees, hips and lower back. Wednesday will be semi-long run of 50 mins. My longest run will probably be 55-60 mins on Sunday. Thursday- ...
End of season Recap: Road To Almost making Nationals My Junior year of track started off pretty slow, and yet fast. I am primarily a distance runner when it comes time for outdoor track. Our first meet was in Lynchburg, Virginia; it’s about a two hour drive from Kutztown. We drive down there for the warmer weather since it is warmer down south! In this case it was only about 5 degrees warmer at the most. I ran the 1500 and 800 meter double. This is one of my favorite doubles even if I am not that good at it. My 1500 was a breeze, I got se...
Warmup for 2 miles, drills and strides. 2x5x200m on the roads- 2sets of 5. 1min rest between each, 3mins between the sets. avg 36 secs. 33 on the 5th rep of both sets. Cooldown, stretch and some core work. More road intervals on Tuesday. 800's x4, followed by 15 mins rest, 6x100 in 15-16 secs 100m walk, in spikes on the track.
I won the race without any kind of warm-up. My wife and I got caught in the rain on the way to the race. I literally arrived 15mins before my race, picked up my number. Spikes on, a few quick strides on the turn, hip# assigned. Ran the 3rd heat of the men. 60.62. Just can't seem to get under that 60sec barrier. At least I'm consistent. Ran faster than the last meet. I"ll take another chance on June 14th at the Jim Law Invitational meet at UNC Charlotte. I've got to move a little earlier in the 2nd turn and maybe try using the blocks. It sort of ...
This Saturday will be my 2nd outdoor race of the season. I had planned on doing a 400/800 double, the only problem is,there's a 2 hour wait in between both races. Plus the fact that I need to try the over and under part of my training and not get so caught up in racing my main event. I need more 400's and even a mile race for some added strength. Starting May28th and every tuesday in June, Run For Your Life here in Charlotte will be hosting All-Comers Twighlight meets. I'm still mixing the training between 400/800m. I really need to focus on ge...
So I have started up a High Altitude Training Center that will be open this summer. I wanted to let the Flotrack folks know about this and contacted their advertising guy. Well he was out of town and so I contacted the other guy. No response. So I threw what money I had to catch their attention. "How does $300 sound to put up some type of advertisement?" No response. Well shoot, what does it take to get an ad up around here. When did Flotrack become so busy (well not too busy, they can run some major brands, I'm guessing major ad money)?&...
I was very impressed with Yoshihide Kiryu's 100M race run yesterday. He is only 17 years old and lopped .18 seconds off his PR of 10.19 to run a 10.01. That is freakin' awesome for a HS kid and his time equaled the WORLD JUNIOR Record. He walloped Olympian Iizuka who came in 3rd in 10.28. I'm very excited for this kid because a.) he doesn't have the typical sprinter physique, b.) he is only 17. Like Mary Cain, I think we should keep tabs on his progress and hopefully we'll be able to see him in Rio 2016 in the 100m/200m...
Today was a good day. 1 mile warm-up,drills and strides. Ran 4x800m on the Blacktop Greenway near the Charlotte University. 3:14,3:09,3:04,3:00 w/ 2mins rest. 10 mins after, put on spikes for some added speed work. 4x200- 34,33,32,31.05w/200 walk recovery. Cool down with hurdle drills and static stretching and some core work w/medball. Coached my AAU youth team afterwards until 8pm. A real good productive day. God is Good. Rest today Wednesday. Thursday- 2 mile warm-up, 10x100m on the grass. Friday- 45-50 min run on the grass. Saturday- 300/200...
Today starts a new training program focus. The 800/400m is really hard to train for without disrupting various energy systems. I have 11-12 weeks until Senior Nationals. So I've decided to devote 6-8 weeks to the 800m and the rest to the 400. I really need to get strong for the 800. That's where I would like to get a medal. Today's work-out will be 4x800- 3:15 w/ 3mins rest all on the roads. This evening at the track- 4x200 in spikes- 34-35secs w/ 200 walk-back. I want to personally thank all those who are supporting me: Keith Dennis of Priorit...
Hello everyone, I hope you're having a wonderful day. Just felt like writing a little bit about some of my recent running and just kinda babble about whatever. Runnings been going great lately. Last month was my biggest month ever at 198 miles, which I was incredibly happy with and this month i should match that. Were getting to that point in the season where everyone is just itching to run fast, and I am as excited as you can get. Ive been training hard and working my tail off. I expect a lot of good things to come. The track team is looking g...
