I only lasted 6 minutes

10mi Tempo on Green Church Rd. Laurel Mountain in the background.
Usually I can last 12-15 minutes. Sometimes I go as long as 20. Yesterday, I could only manage only 6 minutes.
I do a schedule of 2 weeks hard, 1 week easy. The easy week usually is about 10-20% less miles and slightly lowered intensity of workouts. The 2 hard weeks are more mileage + intensity and intended to make me tired by the end.
My last hard cycle I had done a 20 miler the Sunday before, and a 15mi run on Thursday with 6mi of tempo on the tail (all at altitude) and ended with me running a portion of a Marathon with the Bro. I was wrecked going into my easy week. The Bro ran a very good race and easily qualified for Boston, but was slightly disappointed not to break 3 hours. However, he only missed by 1.1 percent – that’s like missing your 5k goal by 10 seconds.
The easy week worked and I recovered then hit the Green Church Rd. with Dan McDo-It for some tempo. I followed a bit behind for 2x3mi at about 6:20 pace and got mooned! That’s at 7000ft – don’t try this at home, kids. We repeated the workout mid week for a similar result the day after a 95min run for me. Monday I did a 10mi tempo at just under 6:40 pace. Wed, 2 hours on dirt roads. Getting Stronger!
Then it was off to the creek. With recent snow and temperatures just above freezing, it is swollen and about 40 degF. My toes went painfully numb in 5min and I gave up at 6min when my crotchal region started to hurt.
Check out the NYC Marathon on Universal Sports Sunday. The field is stacked including 3 Mammoth Track Club runners: Dan Browne, Meb K., Ryan Hall.
Also, McDo-It and I are signed up for the Cal International Marathon. That’s right. You can come out and see us live, in person in Sacramento, Dec 6. I hear the lesser known Mammoth runners Josh Cox and Brian Ball are also signed up. If you are diligent, you might get our autographs after the race.
And a quick rant: Michael Jackson is DEAD and I am sick of hearing about him on the “news”. He was a creepy freak who was, at best, a child and more likely a child molester. The best thing he ever did was give Weird Al good material to lampoon.
