Leg cramps!

The titel actually has nothing to do with what I'm going to blog about, I just couldn't think of anything clever so I just put that down. I thought that I was getting better shape but this week just threw me for a loop. The pain that I have felt in workouts has been really tough to take both physically and mentally. I know that me doing nothing during the summer would hurt me but I actually felt like I was getting back into the shape that I wanted to be but after this week. I think that I may… more »

Rainbow loop in the rain

September 14, 2009

The past two runs that I have had have both been huge improvements on what I have been running. My legs actually feel like they are getting use to the pace and into shape. Today was the first day of practice where it was not basically a 90 plus degrees. It was raining pretty hard but the guys on the team decided to run the rainbow loop which it a pretty hard with it not raining and being all muddy. The run was so much fun but some parts where pretty dagerous because we were flying down the downhill and… more »

Getting back into the swing of things

August 28, 2009

This summer I did not take running that seriously and I am really paying for it right now. The teams pace is pretty quick but I just have not been able to hang with them all that much. Hopefully my legs will get under me in a week or two or I will be in trouble. I just need to focus alot more too, I am alot more negative than I think that I have ever been but things have to change if I'm going to stay on the team. more »

Taking 2nd!

July 5, 2009

So I have never been the fastest kid on the team, actually I have never been faster than 3rd on the team. But this weekend, I had a chance or thought that I had a chance to win a small local 5k. I was teasing with my sister all week about what I should do when I cross the finish line in 1st place. But training had been going all that great and I wasn't really sure how fast I was going to be able to go. But at the start of the race, I felt pretty good but I… more »

Morning runs...

June 9, 2009

Since being back in Utah I have had trouble running alot of mileage because I have been running alone and hiking the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim in 7 hours kinda tore my body up. But finally this week, and old buddy and I started to run at 5:30 every morning and running has gone so much better for me. I am not forcing running on my body or that is how I feel. I feel more relaxed and am getting in some pretty quality mileage which I really need right now any ways. I hope that the morning runs continue to… more »

Midnight Steeple

Tyson Jex | Profile
April 16, 2009

Texas Tech Invititional turns into Texas Tech Twilight because of the 40 plus mile per hour winds. Then they put the steeple right before the 10k, and the running events started at 8 p.m. I was predicted stoked that I was going to be doing the 3k steeplechase because I really wanted to see how fast I could run it after last year I was kind of a "baby" in it. I was kinda sick of just watching the meet because it wasn't all that excited or maybe I just wasn't in the mood. So I just went and layed… more »

Spring Break and airports...

Tyson Jex | Profile
April 6, 2009

I was really sure about how my spring break was going to turn out because I had a meet the day before I was suppose to fly home. The meet at UTEP went well and I ran a new pr (you should totally check out the video). But I had to drive to the ABQ airport at like 5 in the morning just so I could catch my flight, but I had only got around 2 hours of sleep. I got to the airport fine but the flights I was on drove me insane, my first stop in Denver no… more »

Dropping the ball!

March 17, 2009

Yesterday we had a team time trial and I was really excited to see how fast I could run because training had been going pretty good. The first event I was going to do was the 5k, which kind of got me nervous. After a teammate and I went out in a 5:10 mile I was feeling pretty good. But then something happened, I lost focus got passed and it started going downhill from there. I got a side stitch but I really think alot of it was mental and I was just frustrated by the time I finished. After… more »

First ever indoor meet

Tyson Jex | Profile
February 8, 2009

This weekend I ran my first indoor track meet at Texas Tech and it was alot different than I thought it was goign to go. I had barely put in any training in the past week because I have been dealing with tendinitis in my knees. I was scheduled to run the mile and the 3k, and wasn't sure how my body was going to react to all the speed. I did to a tempo run on Thursday and was still sore from it when meet time came around. After running the mile in 4:57, I was super sore but… more »

Regionals and what is too come...

November 26, 2008

Regionals was my first ever 10k and well it didn't go at all how i had planned it in my mind. I knew that it was going to be really fast but after hit my 1st K at 3:00 I think I kind of freaked myself out. I later found out that I had what are called the "freshman blues" which just meant that my body was breaking down after all those miles. I know that track is going to be alot better because I am use to the high mileage and I will get a lot more speed work… more »

One meet left...

October 30, 2008

When the season first started, I couldn't wait for it to be over so that I could start doing some short distance stuff for track. I have always loved running cross country but last year really kind of hurt how i felt about it. But this season has really changed how I feel about running and cross country in general. With the higher mileage and harder workouts, I have come to understand that I need to push myself all of the time or else I won't be that good. After every race I have felt stronger but then we had… more »

New Coach, New Training Method

Tyson Jex | Profile
September 16, 2008

When at first you get a new coach, it is kind of a weird feeling because you don't know if your going to mesh with how he coaches. But, I have never been a high mileage. I thought that my body would fall apart after time, but now with all of the mileage that I have been putting in my body feels fine. I feel like i'm in the best shape of my life and its only going to get better. The intervals seem easy but tough at the same time. I have already pr'd twice and I plan on… more »

Freshman XC Season

December 11, 2007

Well when i lined up for my first race i wasn't expecting to be first, but i also did realize that i was going to be way in the back. It was just interesting running against some of the best runners in the nation. I may never take first but the experience that it has given me was just amazing. After a really long season, i am more mentally focused for track season and i'm way excited to try the steeplechase. more »
