This year has certainly not been my best year for running, in fact it is likely the worst I have had in many. Although I have been very frustrated, I am not giving up. Tom Carter, a great runner and friend of mine once told me, if it's not working, change it. That is exactly what I am doing. I have taken a good look at my training and environment and have planned this summer/fall to get back to some of the things that have worked for me in the past. One big change is the move back to NY.… more »

At the request of Seamus "PD" Nally, here is a new blog. Boston is now only 2 weeks away, and our 6-man group looks really strong. Everyone has been able to hit every workout, it's almost scary how well everyone is handling the training right now. After a couple weeks of training in Florida and Boston we are back to Michigan putting in the miles for the Boston marathon on April 20. I have not run Boston before, so training on the course was definatly helpful. The course is challenging but I also really like the course. One thing that I have learned from past marathons is that you have to run your own race. It is easy to get caught up in the competition when you are feeling good, but 26.2 miles is too demanding to run someone else's race. This is something I am… more »

2009 has started with a bang, in many ways. We have had both some crazy weather, and some crazy workouts. Our guys have made friends and enemys this winter... Friends... The guys who plow the bike path where we work out, in the dark every morning. The guy who opens the bathrooms at the boat launch. The abominal snowman. The inventor of YakTrax. Ice Fisherman at Stony Creek Metro Park. Dakotah Snyder. Enemys... The snowplow driver who can never seem to see us. Brian Sell. Manager of Ace hardware where we but salt. Triple J's ('supposed' to plow our parking… more »

Being a professional athlete requires many sacrifices to gain success. On the Hansons team, we meet at 7:30 AM every day regardless of weather. Today for example, I woke up and checked the weather...It read -3 degrees F. Wait that can't be right... yep it was, and that was without the wind chill. But I knew the workout would still be on. So I bundled up in many layers of Brooks clothing and headed to Stoney Creek Metro Park for my 8 mile tempo run. Fortunately we had about a dozen guys doing this workout so I tucked in and… more »
