2009 has started with a bang, in many ways. We have had both some crazy weather, and some crazy workouts. Our guys have made friends and enemys this winter...

Friends...

The guys who plow the bike path where we work out, in the dark every morning.

The guy who opens the bathrooms at the boat launch.

The abominal snowman.

The inventor of YakTrax.

Ice Fisherman at Stony Creek Metro Park.

Dakotah Snyder.

Enemys...

The snowplow driver who can never seem to see us.

Brian Sell.

Manager of Ace hardware where we but salt.

Triple J's ('supposed' to plow our parking lots when it snows)

Jansons Swimming shop.

Right now I am putting in a segment of very hard training trying to adapt to a higher level of fitness so that I can hopefully run a big PR at the Boston Marathon. Boston will be my focus and I am treating it as the most important race of my life thus far. I am setting my goals conservatively although I plan on being in shape to potentially run faster. Goal: 2:17.

The advantage I have with marathon training is that I am comfortable running high mileage. I like to run between 120-160 miles a week, my challenge will however be to make sure I have the speed and strength to run 26.2 miles at 5:12 - 5:15/mile. Recently we have done workouts of 5 x 2 miles and 8 x 1 mile. We will have many workouts similiar to this leading up to Boston and many that are even longer. I am mentally prepared to go through anything I need to achieve my goal.

Quote of the month:

"I knew when I felt that wind at my back that I needed to make this little legs go"

Michael Reaneau - May the wind always be at your back, and you always looking at mine. Good Luck Mike!

Forcast this week... (no joke, just depressing)

day - high (*F) - low (*F) - wind chill (*F) - snow (inches)
