Crash into the Sun

Today I was at therapy again, but this time with a new PT. After working on me she said "you weren't going to run today were you?" When I told her that I was planning on running she said "you guys aren't normal" (I guess normal people dont lock their keys in the car and then show up for a meeting with no shirt on, but thats another story). Of course "you guys" meant runners. I guess you can take that two ways.

1) I'm weird. (go ahead and post your comments now)
2) Yeah, so what?

Ill take the "Yeah, so what?" In fact thats the way I want it to be. Normal pretty much means average. Average is just the middle of a chart. Average is three fast food hamburgers and four orders of fries per week (thats an actual statistic). AVerage is a "C". Who wants to be average? Not that there is anything wrong with normal, but is that what you aspire to be? Do you just want to be like everyone else? Maybe some of you do, but I think that most of you want more.

The average school runner goes to practice, hangs out and runs where they are most comfortable. The experience is pretty fun and they get a school letter at the banquet. If you are reaching for just being mediocre (middle of the pack) thats OK. But what if you want to be special? What if you want more? What if you want to see whats on the other side of pain? (and it can be beautiful). ?If thats the case, then "Normal" will not get you there. It takes abnormal behavior to get the cool tee shirts.

Since I know most everyone that will read this I can say that none of you are really normal. And I am so glad that you are not. Keep being more than normal. Be better than average. Run with the group thats faster than you. Maybe not everyday, but take a chance on it sometimes. "Special" wont come and find you. You will have to find it, grab it and, then hold on.? It wants to get away from you even after you have found it. You might be special. But you wont find out unless you are abnormal.

Like my new favorite song says "if you're gonna crash, Crash into the Sun".

Ask that PT, would you prefer my abnormal-ness revolved around running or a terminal gas problem?
