The Yogi Runner

Lately, I have been mixing philosophy with my running. It is not always a good thing, like when it paralyzes you in the Rosenzweigian sense--when real life experience becomes separated from philosophical wonderment. But as a whole I have been able to temper my reflection to a productive and manageable level. As I continue training for the CIM marathon this December I begin to add the 20 mile runs, longer tempos I am starting to feel a refreshing feeling in my stride. Partly, because of the intentionality behind my running. I begin my recovery run with pushups, core, yoga and… more »

Marathon Plans

The motivation for running a marathon has begun to stick in my soul like honey on ham. It has been a difficult and long road, but I have finally arrived to a peaceful state of mind. I returned from Cuba a little over one month ago, and have struggled to find my stride. The body hurts, my achilles pains, and my form feels stiff; yet these past weeks I have gradually progressed to 2 hour long runs, 5 minute miles, 1 - 10 minute hills, and 70 second quarters. The past two weekends I have climbed mountains, canoed rivers and… more »

I find myself right off the capitol of Habana at the Inglaterra hotel blogging through the internet world. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind adventure, and the adventure continues. . . After a glorious road trip back from San Francisco at my Orff training, I made my way home to Mendocino to visit the folks. We went canoeing up the Big River on outgoing riggers, then we almost burnt down the sauna I built next to the house (flu fire)! Hay Dios! Next, Kelsey and I stopped off at Fickle Hill in Arcata to visit long time friend… more »

I have begun off training in the Mission district of San Francisco. The training includes playing recorder, xylophones, singing dancing; the approach is to teach music to kids, stemming from the core. I am beginning to integrate all of the components from this long journey of life. The fruits of my labor from Cuba, New york City, Brazil, Kenya, Eritrea, Belgium. . . are all seeming to make sense! Dance as plyometric meditation, running as performance, music as art. I am just one piece of the puzzle, but the gestalt is evident. God Bless! Gabe Jennings more »

Where? How? Why? http://www.runcim.org/ http://www.seattlemarathon.org/site3.aspx http://www.nycmarathon.org/home/index.php We believe the exposure will be good for my training, good for Saucony http://www.saucony.com/ and good for the sport! I have been participating in the local dance camp this whole week, dancing up a storm! Chango! http://www.humboldt.edu/~extended/afrocuban/links.html Next week and the week after I head down to the city, San Francisco, to get a second years training in the Orff Schulwerk method.… more »

Olympic Trials

Eugene, July 9, 2008 The Olympic Trials were hugely dissappointing. I am already plotting out the training with coach Dick Brown for this summer to race a 21K this fall and a go at Club Nationals XC in November. At the moment I am on a regime of 3-4 weeks active rest to heal the achilles injury that has plagued me the past year, and rejuvinate the soul. I am heading down to Sonoma Cali for my cousin's wedding, to be followed by a Cuban Dance and Drum camp in Humboldt followed by Orff Schulwerk music education training in San… more »
