All Ohio Catholic XC Championships

We arrived in Dayton on Friday afternoon after a great trip down in our charter bus. The team was focused on having fun but you could still see the excitement in the eyes in the race the next day.
After a rest in a hotel we were off to Indian Riffle Park to run the course. I had heard that the course was changed due to the damage from the remnants of Hurricane Ike. The course was littered with fallen trees, branches, and a power line. The race director told me that the race almost was cancelled but because of their hard work they were able to put together a new course. The new course provided a lot of straightaways and with the hard ground I knew that the course we be fast come tomorrow. After our run and finish kicks we went over the Kettering Middle school and had a pasta dinner. After dinner a large group of boys went out into the school's courtyard and played Red Rover. Obviously reliving their grade school days. Back to the hotel to rest up and have some fun.
Saturday morning the team promptly woke up and had breakfast in the hotel. We were off to the course by 8:30 and when we arrived we secured our spot in a shelter and began our warm ups. The girls Championship race was first and a big challenge was ahead with Magnificat and Kettering Alter in our race. The girls from Magnificat proved to be the real deal securing the first 5 places(15 points), Kettering Alter finished 2nd with 52 points and the lady Irish finished 3rd with 83 places. A great day for the girls and especially Emily Tomei with a 7th place finish. The boys championship race was next in which many of the top Division I teams would be racing. The boys teams place may not ideal but an 11th place finish with the level of competition was very respectable. Tyler Tomazic lead the way with a 16th place finish.
After the race we filled our bellies at the mall near by and we were off to Akron. It was a wonderful weekend and kids were just great.
