On the comeback trail...

Since this is my first flotrack blog I will give a brief introduction of myself. I'm one of the "old men" on the Brooks-Hanson's team. I've been with the program for five years now, with a focus on the marathon.

Currently I am on the comeback trail from an injury setback I had in December. I ended up having to take about 3 weeks off due to a pretty severe achilles injury. Fortunately the time off did the trick and I've been training again for about 4 weeks now (mostly mileage) and should be around 115 miles this week, which is the highest I've been since November. I now have eleven weeks to keep building and incorporating marathon specific work until the London Marathon.

I wanted to take this first blog to dismiss some false rumors that have circulated due to blogs from Ryan Sheehan. First of all, there is no way he could ever come close to me in American Gladiators (old school or new version, he wouldn't stand a chance). Even if he survived the preliminary events, he would get destroyed on the eliminator due to his lack of being able to successfully use the hand bike, not to mention the inclined treadmill. As for the guitar hero battle that he likes to talk about, he CAN give me a run for my money, as long as I'm playing on Expert, facing away from the television, and playing left handed, while he plays on Easy...but those are just minor details.

Several bright spots for the program this weekend, Sheehan and Jellema going 8:18 and 8:25 for 3k this weekend, despite not having any workouts at sub 4:50 pace is pretty impressive. Some of the guys had a good trip down to Miami for the half marathon down there where Sell pulled his typical winter "I'm in the worst shape of my life" slump, basically did two workouts since the trials (both in the last week) and won the half marathon down there by 1:30 with a 1:03:45 or so...happens every year! Great job guys, keep up the good work.

Thanks for reading guys.
Jeff- It's hard to put a number on the mileage right now, it all depends on how I respond to the volume and quality as we move forward. If everything goes as planned I'd like to build up to and spend a few weeks in the 140-150 range.
Gary- Good to hear from you, how's training??

Injuried in Dec and already back to 115 miles. Nice work. Good luck with the training and build up to London. If you are already at 115, what will you top out mileage wise?
