NCAA's
March 14, 2008
Arrived in Arkansas yesterday afternoon for the NCAA Championships and I am excited about this weekend's action. I guess I'm looking forward to the DMR and the Mile the most but I think every distance runner out there looks forward to those races every year. The days before nationals is always pretty cool. The Holiday Inn in Springdale is where most of the teams stay and hang out. The hotel has a huge atrium so you can see all 8 floors with the nation's best runners, throwers and jumpers weaving in and out of their rooms. Race day at the Hotel for the athletes usually goes something like this.
9:00 AM: Wake up and meet in the lobby for a shake out
9:30 AM: Get back from a lil run and drills and eat some breakfast
10:00 AM: Breakfast until the time of your race you do as little as possible. The hotel is dead during this time with only a few coaches in the lobby going to and from the meet and the occasional athlete scattering in and out of the hotel rooms like mice in a lighted kitchen.
3:30 PM: the hotel starts to come to life, athletes awake from their slumber and trickle out of their caves. The tension is high as the lobby fills with athletes taking swigs of water every 10 secs waiting for their ride to the track.
4:30 PM - 9:35 PM: The Races start and the athletes transform from mice scared of day light to Lions on their hunt.
10:00 PM- The hotel fills up again and the mood is usually light with coaches who are happy their athletes made it to the next round and athletes disappointed with their performance, yet relaxed bc they don't have to compete the next day. The athletes that have made the finals are in their room eating take out from the Olive Garden thinking one of two things; either winning the race or getting one of the 8 All-American spots.
I will be giving updates here as well as posting interviews later tonight.
There is some pretty good coverage for this event and here are some links to navigate this weekend.
Live streaming feed (Which is awesome), but you might have a problem if you use Mozzilla and or a mac.
NCAA Video Feed
Results from the events.

Scoreboard from the meet. If this works it should be pretty cool.

Tom Borish at Trackshark is also doing some great coverage so check what he has to offer.
