I use a couple sections of some runs as time trials once in a while, usually early on a longer run, knowing I am going to continue for another hour. But a couple runs I've done over 20 years, I'll test myself on the whole length. One such flat run is starting at either Sky Oaks, or Bon Tempe dam and running both lakes with the peninsuls. Along the first mile of the Kent trail are a profusion of bright red flowers. I have never seen as many as this year and July 4th is the first day I've seen them. If you hike/run this trail, you can't miss them, although if running, this is a challenge for ankles & falls. The azaleas are also beginning to bloom along the creekbeds. more »

At this time of year, trees have extended their reach for sunlight with new growth. Some have overextended the strength of their limbs and when they begin to dry out, they come crashing down. There have been 2 major limb/trunk falls on the first 1/2 mile of the flat road recently, one right at the 1/2 mile turnaround, (Symons Grove), another I heard up around the Taylor Trail on 6.22.09. more »
