Five reasons why Ravishing Rick Rude was the GREATEST wrestler of all time.

We have debates about many things on runs. Topics range from greatest lead singer of Van Halen(David Lee Roth, of course), to the greatest place to train for a marathon(Rochester Hills, MI, of course). One of the most common subjects (between Kyle, Morgan, and I, at least) is the greatest WWF (sorry World Wildlife Fund, I won't punch a koala in the face today) wrestler of all time. My far and away winner is Ravishing Rick Rude. So, without further ado, here are the top 5 reasons why:

5. Rick Rude's finishing maneuver was the "Rude Awakening". Many people love Stone Cold Steve Austin's finishing move "The Stunner", but the Rude Awakening was like a reverse Stunner. Rick was way ahead of his time, even in reverse.

4. Rick Rude not only had a mullet, but a perm as well. I have been trying to think of a good name for this plumage, but the best I can come up with is Permanullet. Regardless, it was breathtaking.

3. Rick Rude had the ring prowess of a Luche Libre, but the strength of a main eventer. He could fly off the top rope with the best of them, but also gorilla press a 250 lb. man over the top ropes into the first row.

2. Rick Rude maintained a straight mustache until the day he died. What more can be said?

1. If the first four didn't convince you, watch this:

I used to play golf with him weekly here in Atlanta before he died. True showman on the golf course too- would constantly cry about a bad back, wince and hold his back after shots, then take all of your money! He was a great guy to know

The only one to be able to claim both that he sang his intro song and sang it well.

Brian, you may need five reasons to make your case for Rick Rude, but I only need one reason for why the Ultimate Warrior should be the known as the greatest wrestler of all time.

1. His uncanny ability to give mind blowing interviews.

What about Rowdy Roddy Piper or Andre the Giant or Bruno Samartino. Now these were some of the best. The guys you mentioned were just pretty boys. These were real wrestlers that established the sport.

While the Ravishing one is a classic, my vote has to go with the Dead Man, the Phenom, the Undertaker. The only wrestler to give me nightmares back in the day (he was better when he hardly talked at all). Even his manager, the great Paul Bearer, was rather ghoulish. Who could forget the staredown in the funeral parlor between Jake the Snake and the Taker, two legends. Also locking the Ultimate Warrior in a coffin, classic. He has been around since the early 90's and still comes up with great moves. From walking on the top rope at almost 7 feet tall to the tombstone piledriver, to that leg chokehold he came up with, he evolves. Plus, no other wrestler put his opponents in body bags like he did back in the day. And the eyes rolling into the back of the head, just his presence is enough in the ring. Plus he is undefeated at Wrestlemania. Rest..in...peace.

I'm throwing my vote in for the Nature Boy...I mean one of his moves is the slap to the chest and to this day if a wrestler in any organization does it you still get a WOOO!! and Flair isn't even wrestling....Plus the Flair strut during promo's and when he gets tossed to the turnbuckle he flips over it every single stinkin time....Classic!!....My last selling point is he's a jet flyin, limosine drivin, womanizin son of a gun...How can you beat that!!

I constantly have to listen to Kyle tell me how Doink was his favorite wrestler and how great his costume was too. I'd have to make an argument for The Narcissist, Lex Luger (also known as The Total Package). Not only was he co-champion of the Royal Rumble with another great, Bret "the Hitman" Hart, but he was also part of the Four Horsemen and NWO Wolfpack. A true classic who was in it for two decades or so as well.

And don't make me go on a tangent about the Steiner brothers and their awesomeness in both REAL wrestling and WCW. Both are also Michigan natives and NCAA standouts for U-M.

While Rick Rude is great, especially because he uses the term "sweat hogs" a lot, I agree with most that Shawn Michaels tops the charts due to:
-Length of time, he is still at it
-He was awesome as a tag-team with Marty Genetti, and continues to be awesome solo
-His intro music is better than almost everybody else

I second the Ultimate Warrior. The Big Splash coming off the ropes. Amazing. His matches against Hogan are legendary.

Although Sheehan does remind me of the 1-2-3 Kid, in that I'm sure I could destroy them both in a matter of seconds, the greatest Wrestler of all time is Shawn Michaels, no contest. As I've told you before Rick Rude just wasn't around long enough to be the GOAT. On a side note, the "Rude Awakening" is also what I gave you during the workout today...sucka!!!

I don't know...ravishing was quite the showman, but as far as villians go, I'll take Jake The Snake Roberts during his dark days over Ravishing any day. Ravishing had no staying power. He didn't even go on to make movies. Hell, wasn't Bobby The Brain around longer than Rick? Anyways...next we'll discuss the merits of David Lee Roth and Kip Winger.

The Kip Winger Running Team is go!

I say nay the Ultimate Warrior was truly the greatest. His skill was tested to the limits in 1990 by Ravishing Rick Rude in the cage match to end all cage matches but heemerged the victor and that was the last big fight for Rude

Wrestling was ruined when they went spectacular. The best wrestling was local and in Louisville, man we had the best.
Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert betting his mothers car in a match against Jerry lawler..of course he lost and outside the studio lawler drove Gilberts mother's car away...
All that went away with the over the top spectacular stuff..
Remember Handsome Jimmy Valiant wrestling in school cafeterias on TV?
They'd be back in the kitchen smashing each other over the head with pots and pans...
I haven't watched that Walt Disney spectacular firework wrestling at all....

announcer: "Your mutha's car????"
