Going for it!
May 8, 2009
So I have about two hours until I will be racing the 3200 in my last track meet in my hometown. My freshmen year seems like yesterday when I so excited to be running in my last "regular" season ending home meet because the Dinnan twins were coming to race. They were a pair of seniors who ran around 4:20 in the 1600 and it was my burning desire to try and keep up with them. So I ended up having my breakthrough performance that day as I ran a huge pr for the 1600 in 4:27 and barely stole… more »
Twelve and a half laps
April 13, 2009
So it has been quite awhile since my last blog, sorry guys. I know everyone has been anxiously awaiting this and finally I have something worth talking about haha. Since my last blog describing the Boston Indoor Mile I have battled an achilles tendon injury and the Alaskan winter. Luckily I has able to work my way into descent shape in time for my SoCal trip.Coming into Arcadia I was wanting to get 4:36 mile pace down pat. Unfortunately my hometown track has been covered with snow and thick ice. You may be thinking that I thrive in those kind… more »
BIGtime Experience
February 9, 2009
The weekend in Boston was sensational! First off I have to give a BIG thanks to Art from Global and Patrick from Reebok for inviting me out there and making the trip unforgettable. Here are some of the more interesting things I got to do:1. Lakers-Celtics game. I know all the other high school milers are a little jealous that I went, but it’s time to get over it guys. I had to put up with your dumb Alaska jokes the whole weekend haha. This is definitely one of the most fierce and historic rivalries in sports, and I was… more »
New Year's, Surgery, and more
December 31, 2008
As 2008 comes to an end I have taken some time to reflect on what a magnificent year it has been. I started off the year as an unheard of Alaskan kid with high ambitions to become an elite high school distance runner.
After a healthy and successful track season where I recorded new pr's of 1:56, 4:15, 9:06, and 14:52, I knew I had taken a huge step towards my goal. However, a great track season alone was not enough to satisify me, and I knew there was room for improvement. I bumbed up the mileage a little throughout… more »
9:01.4
November 9, 2008
Coming into this weekend my confidence was soaring as daily runs were feeling amazing and on my workouts despite the snowy conditions were producing some of the faster times that I have ever done. The plan for Saturday was to race a 3200 meter time trial just to stay sharp and have a decent venue to perform at because you never know when you can hit a patch of ice on the trails. I was so curious to what kind of time I could turn out; I knew I was in better shape but the external factors I figured would… more »
Dangerously Close
October 13, 2008
Wow! Three state championships in a row for the Kodiak Bears and me respectively. WOW! 14:47 adidas classic. I think I'm finally starting to take the next step into the national spotlight; a long awaited coming out party.
First of all I have to thank all of my family, friends, and fans that have cheered me on and believed in me in my quest to become a name that people fear. I appoligize for taking so long to publish this thoroughly kick-ass blog post, but the kid is a very busy dude. To be honest this is a great way… more »
My final ferry trip
August 22, 2008
Entering this cross country season I was driven to lead my team to both fast times and many more fun times. I was eager to create an atmosphere fun for any member of the group, touch bases with all levels of runner, and share my knowledge and experience with anyone who had questions.Being a senior captain on the Kodiak cross country team; my hope is to go out with a bang and leave behind me a storied legacy of cross country supremacy. The perfect opportunity to begin such a quest was our annual ferry trip. This year's version was one… more »
Cross Country
July 31, 2008
Gearing up for cross is and will always be one of the most enjoyable times of the year. With no classes to weigh me down, and this year no job, I can dedicate myself to developing into the best distance runner I can be. To go with that the beautiful Alaskan summers along with our midnight sun shine light on our ample amounts of wooded loops and trails. The first day of practice on Aug. 4th will be the celebration for all of my hard work this summer.Although I talk of the magnificent Alaskan summer, for me that is an… more »
And that was that...State AKA The Ships
May 27, 2008
Well as I pondered my goals for this year's track season at the beginning of the year I came up with two sets of goals. My time goals which were sub 2, 4:15, and 9:10. I also has the dream to join the select few, triple crown champions. And I'm not talking about growing hooves and having a 2 foot long dick and calling myself Seattle Slew, Secretariat, or maybe Big Brown. Oh no I'm talking about the distance running trifecta. The gold medalist in the state 8, the mile, and the deuce. This was a dream of mine ever… more »
Sub-2:00
May 11, 2008
A big old turd has finally found its way out of my body (hope you guys can understand the metaphor, I worked pretty hard on that). The long time period of frustration, has finally come to a close with a breakthrough performance that I will remember for the rest of my life. 1:56.26. When I hear that time I still can't believe that this would be my 800 time of my junior year. All the nightmares of seeing 2:00 and change are finally over. I believe the tally had accumulated to four 2 flats, which coincidentally is the same amount… more »
Back in the Fast Lane
April 17, 2008
Wow what a weekend!! After a sub-par opening meet at the intrasquad Blue/Gold (4:30 1600) in dismal conditions; it felt awesome to clean the dust off the shelves (metaphorically) at The Dome.
Coming into the meet my workouts had been going well and speed was finally beginning to show itself in my legs. My schedule was my traditional early season "Workhorse" lineup consisting of: 4x8, 1600, 800 on Friday and my personal favorite the 3200 on Saturday. After my seemingly effortless 1:59.3 split to anchor the 4x8 to a second place finish I knew that the day was… more »

The Ice Season
March 28, 2008
Happy (track) season greetings everyone. I'm sure anyone who is reading this is wondering why i titled this blog the Ice Season. Well... I'm no expert on the records in weather, but I'm quite positive that Kodiak, AK has had the Snowiest spring ever. In addition to our ferocious snowstorms the weather has been incredibly inconsistent between cold and semi-warm. As a result of all this meteorological madness our one and only Kodiak Island Track is currently covered with 6 inches of ice and several patches of ankle deep snow.
Now this situation would not be nearly as… more »

The Ultimate Dome Experience
February 28, 2008
My first Indoor track meet of my young running career was an experience I won't forget. Coming into the race my confidence was soaring, and I knew that my goal of sub-15 minutes for the 5000 was attainable. Earlier in the day (the meet was run at night) I visited Skinny Raven Sports-the best running store I've ever been to- and was thrilled to discover that Jerry Ross and an Adidas Rep would be joining me in my assault at sub-15. Also I was fortunate to be the first field tester of the new Anthony Familigetti designed Adidas prototypes. When… more »
My Super Super Bowl Sunday
February 3, 2008
Unbelievably awesome; is how I would describe my Super Bowl Sunday. It started off with me waking up around noon and heading off to the football field to play some ultimate frisbee with my History Teacher Mr. Neagley (Who has to be the greatest history teacher ever and is a huge New York Giants fan). It was his idea of a little pre-game celebration. Although we fought nobly my team eventually fell to the trash-talking Neagley and his team who he compared to his New York Giants. Ironically, we fell just as the Patriots would later that day in an… more »
A Breath of Fresh Air
January 17, 2008
Ahh... A sigh of relief. Finals for the first semester have just finished and now I can focus 100% on training. So far I have had about a month of steady mid-forty mile weeks with no injuries. Now it is time to start a solid 2 month campaign of base-training miles to gear up for track. I'll be upping the volume and the intensity here gradually and throwing in give or take 2 speed workouts a week. The speed workouts are going to be tough at first but I'm pretty fit so I should be able to handle it relatively… more »
