Gearing up for cross is and will always be one of the most enjoyable times of the year. With no classes to weigh me down, and this year no job, I can dedicate myself to developing into the best distance runner I can be. To go with that the beautiful Alaskan summers along with our midnight sun shine light on our ample amounts of wooded loops and trails. The first day of practice on Aug. 4th will be the celebration for all of my hard work this summer.

Although I talk of the magnificent Alaskan summer, for me that is an unfair description. The majority of my summer runs have been in the great state of Oregon. I started my journey to the Beaver state to attend the Olympic Track and Field Trails @ Hayward Field. After Lagat kicked to win the 1500 I continued my travels to Diamond/Crater Lake to visit my relatives. The family reunion was a lot of fun and I had many scenic long runs. Then I had two running camps the first was the University of Oregon camp and the second the Steens Mt. where I joined my team to truly "rough it" in Eastern Oregon.

During all these experiences I've gotten to see an underdog defy all odds and dive to make the Olympic team (Christian Smith), Scream my lungs out for our sentimental favorite Scott Bauhs in the 10k, End a workout with a swim in the deepest lake in the US, Hear the endless hilarious stories from the legendary Pat Tyson, Talk to Vin Lanana himself, Go on a run on Pre's Trail with former Stanford stud Grant Robison and see 6 Beijing Olmpians, run a race with absolutely no trail across a canyon with my XC team, and make many friends along the way. Doing all this while still putting in 50-70 mpw and having a great time while doing it!!!

Cross Country doesn’t officially start until next week but for me it has already began.
