My final ferry trip

Trevor Dunbar | Profile
August 22, 2008

Entering this cross country season I was driven to lead my team to both fast times and many more fun times. I was eager to create an atmosphere fun for any member of the group, touch bases with all levels of runner, and share my knowledge and experience with anyone who had questions.

Being a senior captain on the Kodiak cross country team; my hope is to go out with a bang and leave behind me a storied legacy of cross country supremacy. The perfect opportunity to begin such a quest was our annual ferry trip. This year's version was one of the longest trips I can remember; a 10 day journey over the sea, to Anchorage, the Kenai peninsula and back home to our ROCK of salvation. As this was my ferry trip finale I was sure to make it a quality experience.

Looking back this trip is an essential part in the development to our close knit group of guys and girls that consist of our cross country family. The personalties of new-combers- such as freshmen mooch-mister Lee Bondurant, aspiring young athlete Jordan Fogle, talented driven and witty Thomas Long- added to our list of already spunky individuals like the colored men and Karstaven Shiiek. Each day was a new experience of either epic ultimate frisbee, soap dropping showers, lost long runs, daily push-up tolls (slackers), midnight pow-wows with skeeter cabin, and enough streaking to last all of us a lifetime. In addition to all this youthful fun we also enjoyed an ample amount of training that really went by like nothing, and three races (two 5k invites and one 4x1.5 mile relay). The beautiful Alaskan summer made this experience all the more joyous.

Add all that to also having one of the most talented co-captains in the nation (Samuel "BAMA-PRIDE" Salus) and an excellent coaching staff, this season is off to a hot start!
