Wow! Three state championships in a row for the Kodiak Bears and me respectively. WOW! 14:47 adidas classic. I think I'm finally starting to take the next step into the national spotlight; a long awaited coming out party.

First of all I have to thank all of my family, friends, and fans that have cheered me on and believed in me in my quest to become a name that people fear. I appoligize for taking so long to publish this thoroughly kick-ass blog post, but the kid is a very busy dude. To be honest this is a great way for me avoid my calculus homework that looms ever so darkly over my head. Okay I realize I may bounce around a lot in this blog so bare with me as I go through the recaps, (I had a long night in the Anchorage airport last night) here we go!

Friday, October 4th Palmer, Alaska the site of the State Cross Country meet. When I think of the day the first thing that comes to mind was how absurdly cold it was. I pleaded with the other guys to start our warm up earlier than normal, but in retrospect I was glad that they talked me out of it because it was not the right time to do anything new. From the team standpoint this was the pinnacle of the season, and Individually, although there would not be stiff competition, this is never a race to take lightly. For me to feel the way I did throughout the race and run the last kilometer in 2:57 (My fastest split of the race) and finish in 15:08 made me very elated to know that I had improved by so much. [I ran 15:36 to win last year on the same course.] However, more importantly IMO was the performances of Chaven Davidson and James Osowski. The fourth and fifth runner can usually seperate a good team from a winning team, that being said our guys showed a lot of character in covering the last of the Service scorers to topple the pack-running juggernaut and put us on top for the third year in a row. To capture the three-peat with the sweet smiling southerner Samuel S. Salus made the moment that much more special. As I look towards the future of the Kodiak Bears, I can't wait to see the gang evolve and the emergence of an up and coming sensation in Dylan Anthony to take over in his Senior year. I think I'm more excited than the underclassmen are for a potential next year, but I know they will do great.

There was nothing more special about what I did at the adidas classic than what I did at state. However, with a larger scale audience, a beautiful day, and a much flatter course, the public appeal was a great deal higher in Portland. Going out hard with a 4:40 first mile I think took a toll on me. But hey, with the adrenaline and the nature of this statement race, I think it was only for the better that I did what I did. Crossing the line in 14:47 was extremely gratifying and knowing that my fitness is strong enough to hold on to such an ambitious pace really stapled my confidence to the atmospheric level it had been approaching. Running my last race with the team was an emotional moment but I know that it had to happen sometime. On the bright side I will have Sam to accompany me on my last training campaign through the sloggy winter in hope of a footlocker birth. With the Mt. Sac Invite right around the corner my excitement to train is electric. I think adidas is just the start of the good things to come and although it may sound funny my season is just getting started.

"That night Quenton Cassidy ran the best mile of his life and thereby changed his position in the tiny universe of tunners nearly imperceptibly. He ran 4:00.1 and of course would never be quite the same. But his race was also a different kind of revelation.

And although Denton tried several times on the flight back to put things into perspective for him Cassidy knew he was on the fearful nebulous border new territory."
