New Year's, Surgery, and more

Trevor Dunbar | Profile
December 31, 2008

As 2008 comes to an end I have taken some time to reflect on what a magnificent year it has been. I started off the year as an unheard of Alaskan kid with high ambitions to become an elite high school distance runner.

After a healthy and successful track season where I recorded new pr's of 1:56, 4:15, 9:06, and 14:52, I knew I had taken a huge step towards my goal. However, a great track season alone was not enough to satisify me, and I knew there was room for improvement. I bumbed up the mileage a little throughout an action packed summer that included attending the Olympic Trials! From there it was time to get in the cross country mode. Most people who follow high school cross country knows that my season was truly a "dream" season for me. Acheiving the 3-peat, a rediculously crowd-pleasing time trial, and a runner up finish at Footlocker were some of the many highlights. It was a fun journey where oodles of friends were made. The journey doesn't stop here though and 2009 should be even better.

The last day of 2008 is one I would like to soon forget. I had surgery to remove four wisdom teeth. Now my cheeks look like a chipmunks and I feel very lathargic. Considering this is the biggest hiccup I have had in my training I would say the year went swimmingly. I intend to be back on the horse in about 4 or 5 days, but knowing me I will probably be too stubborn and start sooner.

On another note if anyone is curious about my college decisions or heard a rumor I had made a verbal committment, It is true! I will be attending the University of Portland and rocking the Purple next fall. I guess that is pretty much it!!!

Happy Training and have a Happy New Year!

Sweet choice! When I met you here in chico, I was like "this guy is totally a Portland" type of guy. You'll kick some serious ass there... and despite the belief by some people, distance runners can kick a lot of ass, haha.

Hopefully you don't look quite as chipmunk-like anymore.

Aww Trevor, should've gone with OK State. Although come to think of it, maybe purple is your color?

JK, good luck this season!

It's great that a site like this is an outlet for all levels of experienced runners to contribute our sport's community. Trevor's name will hopefully sprinkle this site throughout all of his college eligibility years.
Then, all of those who are currently afflicted with "critique-itis" will be off and chasing other leaders who are not afraid to put their thougts out there. Thanks Trevor for your recap. Follow the post-op orders and keep on doing the deal. Thanks Flotrack.

For the idiot from below:

Swimmingly: successfully, effortlessly, or well:
Rediculous has become a slang word of sorts, don't get your panties in a bunch over it.

People who post here for the express intention of correcting people's spelling and grammar are idiots.

This is a place for people to talk, to express themselves about running, to hear people's stories, feelings about things that are going on in the running world, and to get excited about the sport.
This is what it is not: It is not a place where people come to get ridiculed about their blog posts. It is not a place people go to show off their skills in the english language. It is not English class.
If you want to be a troll, then go to Letsrun.com and be an idiot there.
Wait actually let me rephrase that: "If you want to wanna be a troll go to letsrun and be an ideot there."
I think I will go post a blog now about people like that because they friggin' piss me off. Actually I basically did just post a blog.

Trevor, enjoy your last track season in high school. You'll face challenges that will make your wisdom teeth experience seem like a day at the beach. You seem up to the task. You give credit to those that support you and that is a credit to you. Go Pilots!
