Going for it!

Trevor Dunbar | Profile
May 8, 2009

So I have about two hours until I will be racing the 3200 in my last track meet in my hometown. My freshmen year seems like yesterday when I so excited to be running in my last "regular" season ending home meet because the Dinnan twins were coming to race. They were a pair of seniors who ran around 4:20 in the 1600 and it was my burning desire to try and keep up with them. So I ended up having my breakthrough performance that day as I ran a huge pr for the 1600 in 4:27 and barely stole fourth place.

Oh, how the times have changed.

Today I'll be attempting to be the first person to run a sub-9 3200 on Alaskan soil. Well maybe just the first high schooler but still, it is rare speed. Considering that would take a pr and a stellar solo performance I am preparing for war. Workouts have been going well now its just time to put it all together in one soul-finding performance.

I finished the last of my AP tests this morning so mentally I'm relieved...time to get pumped now, Weezy time!

Off to the track, I'll leave a comment below tonight and tell you how it goes!

Ummmm...ok haters. This guy is the real thing. He neglected to mention in the blog that he is ran that 3200 under the dark black cloud of his friend's untimely passing. He mentions it in this interview:

Seriously, guys, quit trying to find the negative in something that is truly incredible. I thought the running community was above that. Way to go, Trevor! I am excited to see what the future brings for you.

The T he made at the end of the race was for his friend. It was his friend's birthday and he had asked Trevor to do that. Trevor is far from arrogant.

Trevor:
Just wanted you to know that your best days as a runner and person lies ahead. You have no idea how successful you will be in this sport. To run a solo 8:51 in the middle of nowhere (yes...Kodiak, AK is the nucleus of no-man's land:) is extremely impressive. To negative split with very smart, careful concerted efforts is more impressive. But what people too often forget is the solo work that a person like yourself have to put in; without the work, there would be no records...guarantee it...no substitutions.
As you move to the next ranks, it WILL be a lot tougher, but just stay grounded and NEVER lose that fire you have right now. That fire will carry you through the tough times and catipult you higher through the good ones.
Remember the words of this old-timer:)

Okee dokee flotrack fans, so I thought it would be cool to do the blog before the race to get the emotions of the pre-race vibes going through my brain but I was kind of on a time crunch when I was writing this so the blog itself wasn't so special. The race however was extremely special, It was a beautiful day in Kodiak about 59 degrees sunny, not a cloud in the sky, slight breeze but nothing bad. I would have to say about perfect running conditions. Also all my friends from school that don't usually get to see me run came out to the track and that meant a lot. My warm up felt so smooth and I could feel it calling in the air tonight haha. My mentality was, "just to go for it." My splits went 66.0, 66.3, 66.8, 67.0 (4:26.1), 66.8, 66.9, 67.1, 64.6. 8:51.4!!!!!!!!! The last two laps were hell. I just saw on the dyestat boards that Jeff Thode ran a 8:51.3 tonight, wow! All I can say is I'm coming after you, haha.
