insomnia at 10pm

i don't know if you can classify it as such, but i've been trying to go to bed for almost 3 hours. black. complete silence. a cool 73 degree room. the only thing that keeps me from dreaming something really awesome, that i don't even know about yet, is rehearsal. it's a habit i get into the nights before competition. but not in the fall. which is why i'm writing this. i go over each event in the decathlon one by one, mentally practicing it as if it were about to happen. i get goose bumps and adrenaline rushes all the same. i vision myself pr-ing in everything and crossing the finish line first by some rediculous margin. and there's always some extra burst of speed that last 200m of the 1500m that I WOULD only dream about!!

so then these thoughts led to me wondering if x-c men and women rehearse their races? i mean, 28-35 minute races would be pretty time consuming to practice in your head. wouldn't they?

please tell that track stars and field eventers aren't the only people who do this!! (sleepless smithers)

You guys and your Cobras. Funny story, my first year at Texas we had who used to have us visualize our races the day before. But because his voice was a bit nasaly everyone ended up focusing on trying not to laugh. That really helped the next day.

Yea, I already got the new cover sheet. I just forgot to put it on this time. It'll never happen again.

I always suggest mental rehearsal especially on speed work days, but my coach thinks it is more important to actually run. We do have mental rehearsal, just with a fast forward button..

I have recently experienced such insomnia. I get so excited about going into the office every morning. I imagine what the day will bring..."Corporate accounts payable Nina speaking, Just a moment"...yes!

Yep. We do it too. We kind of run an abbreviated version of the race in our heads. Funny, but most of the time I fell asleep doing my mental prep. That's just how boring XC can be.

we do.....maybe in a little quicker than real time, but well go over key points in a race, like that one hill or some turn. then we might imagine the guys we expected to be around us, think of what splits we want to hit, hear our breathing. we think about the start and finish. so yes we go over it in our head.
